The city of Pinara, in Turkey, has long haunted archaeologists. This ancient city was built thousands of years ago right in the rock - even the exact time of the city's construction remains a mystery today. But the most interesting and exciting for scientists lies in the reasons for its desolation - for a long time it was strong and rich, and then abruptly disappeared from the annals.
When the city was first discovered, archaeologists decided that it was just a city for the dead, similar to the way it was done in Egypt. However, studies of the passages and catacombs yielded nothing - it was empty. No traces of people were found.
Then scientists began to look for traces of buildings that were created from the outside of the city - for example, the remains of a fortress wall or some kind of military outposts.
So far, the existing data allowed only to assume about an unknown cataclysm. As if there was a big explosion that left a crater in place of some of the structures.
In the catacombs themselves, there is now a void, unusual for ancient cities. There are no amphorae, no traces of activity. It's like people just left.

Now scientists want to find the heirs of the underground civilization. They suggest that echoes of the Pinara culture can be found in other cultures. But most of all they are worried about why the city appeared and why it was suddenly abandoned.
