In 1993, an event took place at Midlands Air Base, which later became known as the Cosford Incident. It all started when a Ministry of Defense police patrol saw a large triangular flying object. The UFO, before flying away, released a beam of light towards the earth. The flying object turned out to be one of a group of a dozen UFOs circling at high speed in the British sky.

Part of the Advanced Aviation Threat Identification Program?

Reputable British UFO expert Nick Pope suspects a so-called Aviation Threat Identification Program (AATIP) is linked to the Cosford incident. The US government program focused on UFO sightings around the world from 2007 to 2012, resulting in a 490-page report.

Nick Pope then wrote a report on the Cosford incident. As he said in an interview with Express & Star, this was the most famous and compelling UFO incident that occurred during his work on the Department of Defense UFO research project in the early 1990s. According to Pope, the Cosford incident is one of the best and most revealing in the entire collected archive, which spans decades and has about 12,000 UFO sightings.

And it remains completely incredible for him why this incident was not among those mentioned in the secret US report. According to him, the Americans knew everything about the UFO incident in Cosford and, apparently, themselves carried out several delicate investigations in this regard.

What happened during the Cosford incident?

The Cosford incident occurred at about 1:15 am on March 31, 1993, when Department of Defense officials saw a giant flying object about 200 feet (about 60 meters) high. There was a quiet hum from the UFO, and then it shot a beam of light across the earth's surface. Upon contact of the beam with the surface, a luminous vapor was formed, after which the UFO flew away in a southeast direction.

Most of the witnesses described the UFO as an object with two white lights, but some said that they saw a third fire on it, and this became the reason for the assumption that the UFO could be triangular. At the time, Nick Pope identified it as a UFO of "unknown origin" that, while in British airspace, never showed up on radar.

The incident was classified by him as "important to defense" and required further in-depth investigation of the Cosford incident in his recommendation. But to this day, no new details about the incident have become known. Nick Pope suggests that because of the significance of this event, the US government has launched its own investigation into the mysterious UFO incident. It only remains unknown whether the Pentagon informed the British about its developments and the information it received regarding the UFO incident in Cosford. And by the time AATIP was founded, Pope had already left the Department of Defense.

Numerous UFO sightings

During the Cosford event, a large number of unidentified flying objects were seen. One of these UFOs was about 200 meters in diameter and was spotted by a member of the public in Ragley, Staffordshire.

An eyewitness said that he, along with other family members, tried to catch up with the object by car and even got very close to it, because they were sure that it had landed in a nearby field. In just a few seconds they were already in that field, but they did not find anything there.

This incident took place three years after the so-called Belgian wave of UFO sightings. Then Belgian F-16 fighters were raised into the sky to intercept UFOs tracked on radar.

As Nick Pope himself writes, he believes that some UFOs may have an alien origin, but there is no evidence of this. Whether these were indeed the aliens who controlled the mysterious flying triangles during the Cosford incident remains unfortunately unclear. This event needs additional study, but without the Pentagon publishing new results, the incident will remain a mystery.

We will never know the truth about the Cosford UFO sighting unless the US military makes its findings public, but that is unlikely to happen in the foreseeable future.
