American physicists have proposed a new theory of the formation of primordial black holes. Two studies are published in the journal Physical Review Letters, according to the University of California at Los Angeles (USA).

Scientists have suggested that primordial black holes appeared a fraction of a second after the Big Bang, and their interaction with neutron stars leads to the synthesis of heavy elements, in particular, gold, silver, platinum and uranium.

It takes about ten thousand years for a black hole to absorb a neutron star. This process is accompanied by a decrease in the size and an increase in the frequency of rotation of the star, as well as emissions into the surrounding space of matter, from which heavy elements are subsequently formed.

Primordial black holes are believed to have become sources for the formation of supermassive black holes in the centers of large galaxies. The absence of neutron stars in the centers of galaxies indicates the validity of the authors' theory.

Scientists plan to conduct computer simulations that reproduce the synthesis of heavy elements as a result of the interaction of a primordial black hole and a neutron star.

A supermassive black hole is at least a hundred thousand times heavier than the Sun. As a rule, such objects are located in most active centers of large galaxies. They, according to scientists, have a decisive influence on the evolution of large stellar systems.
