Everyone knows the story of the Trojan Horse. Someone even, not knowing this amazing story, understands the figurative meaning of this phrase. But among historians there is a dispute about whether the horse really was or is it just fiction.
It is believed that the ancient poet Virgil wrote his poem "Aeneid" using real documents and chronicles.
Let me remind you that the Trojan Horse shows how with the help of military cunning and ingenuity, you can take an impregnable city, just a small group of fighters. Telling the enemy that, as a sign of respect and reconciliation, they want to give them a wooden statue of a horse.
The horse was accepted and a feast was organized on this occasion. But the horse was not easy, a group of soldiers was hiding inside, which interrupted the guards at night and opened the gate.
The inconsistencies start immediately. According to the description, the Horse was seven meters high and three meters wide. Enthusiasts built such a model, but only 20 people could fit in it, and not 30, as the author claims. The second discrepancy is the gate. The height of the gate in the fortress was about five meters. How then were you able to drag the horse?
To drag such a structure from the beach into the fortress, it took a wooden road. Construction and transportation should have taken several days. It is unlikely that 30 people were able to withstand in the close belly of a horse for several days.
There is a Roman version of the appearance of the horse, and it seems more believable. The horse was a battering ram, and the Greeks had already broken through the wall with it, when the Trojans were able to repel the attack and capture the horse. Several warriors took refuge in it, who were not noticed in the heat of the battle.
There is other evidence of military cunning. So Homer writes how the Greeks fled from the Cyclops wearing sheep skins. This is one example where soldiers disguise themselves as the enemy and thus succeed.
