This huge antique building was built by the Roman Emperor Septimius Severus. It is noteworthy that originally Septisonium had seven floors - much higher than the famous two-story library in Ephesus.
It was located on the Appian Way, and travelers who arrived in the Eternal City were amazed at the greatness of Septisonius. Perhaps for this very reason it was destroyed by the barbarians, mercilessly destroying all the most beautiful and outstanding. They demolished several floors and left only part of the building.
Later, these ruins were dismantled by the Romans - it is known that part of the blocks of this building went to the construction of an obelisk in Piazzo del Popolo, the Basilica of San Giovanni, etc.
Pay attention to the ruins of this building - even they are amazing. It is difficult to imagine what Septisonius was like before the destruction of Rome. It also remains a mystery, with the help of what technologies this huge multi-storey building was built almost two thousand years ago.

By the way, the Arc de Triomphe, also built by Septimius Severus, is one of the most famous Roman landmarks. Notice how much it differs from the buildings built later.
