One of the clubs in the United States is called the Superstitious Union. According to the charter, any person who is in any way connected with the number 13. If you were born on the 13th, if your name has 13 letters, if you live in a house or apartment number 13, or on the 13th floor, if the sum of the numbers that make up the number of your car or license is thirteen - no doubt, any of these conditions is sufficient to be accepted into this unusual society.
The bowels of consciousness
The number 13 has mostly evoked negative emotions for a long time, but there are also fans of it. Most often these are people who have given themselves a psychological attitude "in spite of" and "in spite" to prove with their lives the inconsistency of superstitions. Or is it a kind of flirting with a dangerous number according to the principle "I treat you well, which means that you will not harm me either!"
So, it must be admitted that the magic of the number 13 keeps people in strict dependence on themselves, forcing a person every time, willingly or unwittingly, to note the presence of a “damn dozen” in his destiny.

Why is the number 13 so annoying to humanity? Why is one set of numbers considered fatal and the other happy? Does the fate of a person really depend on the date of birth? There are many similar questions. Do they have any basis under them?

Since ancient times, people have been convinced that absolutely everything in the world can be expressed by a numerical code. But it is the fate of a person that has always been the main aspect of numerology, although tracing historical dates, right up to events of planetary significance, is also a very fascinating and instructive side of studying its laws.
Special importance has always been attached to a person's birthday. The planet that influences fate was determined precisely by the numerical correspondence with the date of birth: Sun - 1, Moon - 2, Jupiter - 3, Uranus - 4, Mercury - 5, Venus - 6, Neptune - 7, Saturn - 8, Mars - 9 (The sun and the moon were considered in a series of planets). All calculations were carried out using nine numbers from 1 to 9, called "spiritual" or "characteristic". All others were considered a repetition of them.
Nevertheless, it was the number 13 that for many turned into the fatal “damn dozen”. In their superstitious attitude towards him, people have come to the point that:
- many hotels do not have rooms with number 13;
- there are no 13 seats in theaters in Italy and many other countries;
- modern air regiments of different countries do not have aircraft with tail number 13;
- in 1930 in England it was forbidden to give this unfortunate number to cars;
- Until 1945, in the city of Lvov, houses were not numbered with this number …
There are many more such examples, but fear of the “devil's dozen” has always had and has a limited geography of distribution. In the East, where numbers are treated with even greater respect than in the West, the number 13 is not perceived as a symbol of unhappiness. In the Buddhist pantheon, 13 Buddhas, the number of mystical discs on Indian and Chinese pagodas is thirteen.
And in the West, too, not all peoples dislike this number - for the Mexicans, for example, it is sacred. And the most superstitious America about the "damn dozen" is not a sin to remember that the American Union was originally formed by 13 states, that the motto "One of many" - 13 letters, that the American eagle has 13 feathers in each wing and that when George Washington raised the flag of the Republic, then he was greeted with a salute of 13 volleys!
An appeal to ancient civilizations shows the absence and they have a bias towards the number 13. On the contrary, the ancient Maya tribes gave it a positive meaning. Their week consisted of 13 days, which had a ritual origin: 13 heavens, 13 gods, 13 signs of the zodiac.
For example, I will name several names of people born on the 13th: Saint Augustine -13 November, Heinrich Heine -13 December, Alphonse Daudet - 13 May. The list goes on and on.
The number of happy and unhappy destinies in it will be in the same proportion as those born, for example, on the 15th: Napoleon on August 15, Rembrandt on July 15, Moliere on January 15 …
At the same time, an interesting fact is that the ancients attributed a mysterious connection to the problems of good and evil to the number 15. For them, this number symbolized the genius of evil.

On the contrary, in those distant times, when the array of magical knowledge was not yet lost and perverted, 13 was considered the most powerful number. The ancient teaching says: "The one who understands the number 13 has the key to power and dominion."
This is where you need to look for the reason for the superstitions created around the number 13. First, some people did not really want to allow other people "to power and dominion." The Egyptian priests, from these motives, declared it to be the number of misfortunes. Other power holders did the same.
Secondly, the concept of the "damn dozen" was born in the opposition of the church to the occult. It would seem that in the fight against Kabbalists it would be more logical to brand the most magical of all numbers - 22, since the word "Kabbalah" itself means "the power of twenty-two." But the number 13 giving "power and dominion" was considered more dangerous here. They began to look for confirmation in the Bible.
As you know, Jesus Christ and 12 apostles were present at the Last Supper. In this regard, a superstition arose that if 13 people participate in the meal, then one of them will die within a year. Its echo has reached our times: in New York it is not customary for 13 people to sit at the table.
A certain Fred Khorey even built his business on this. A phone call - and immediately an elegant middle-aged man appeared so that superstitious Americans could receive guests with peace of mind.
It should also not be forgotten that the betrayal of Judas was committed on the eve of the Last Supper, that is, on Thursday, the 13th of the month of Nisan, when the moon was 13 days old (according to the Jewish lunisolar calendar). And this is already a good reason for antipathy to the number 13.
All this was already enough to sign the verdict for the "devil's dozen". However, in their bias, people found new aggravating circumstances for the fatal number. 13 does not fit into the numerical harmonic series. The number 12 was considered a synonym for completeness, a symbol of the set, and the number following it began to be considered as breaking the order, superfluous, bringing misfortune …
