India is an amazing country, filled not only with legends, but also with ancient buildings around which controversy continues to this day. Today I want to tell you about one of these structures, namely the Qutub Column, which is comfortably located in the central square of the amazing city of Delhi, near the Qutub Minar.

Looking at the column weighing 6.5 tons and as high as a three-story building, it seems that it always stands here, but in fact it was moved here. In 1050, the ruler of ancient India, Anang Pola, ordered the transfer of the pillar to the city of Delhi. And the original location of this monumental structure is the area near the Vishnu temple, in the east of India.

According to one of the versions, the Delhi pillar (the second name of the great column) was erected in 415 AD in memory of Emperor Chandragupta ||. There is also an engraving on the column, which was translated and reads as follows: "The moon cannot be compared with the beauty of the king and the path directs the gaze of an eagle in the sky."

The chemical analysis showed that the column is 99.72% pure iron, and 0.28% is unknown impurities that are unknown to modern scientists.
Surprisingly, despite the fact that the column, which stood, according to the most conservative estimates, at least 1500 years, practically did not corrode.

This is despite the rather harsh climate with monsoon rains and high humidity in the region.
There are many hypotheses as to why this pillar is not subject to corrosion, and according to one of them, the Delhi pillar is made of stainless steel.
But the analysis of the composition of the column, carried out by specialists, showed that there are no impurities in the metal that increase the anti-corrosion properties of the metal.
But phosphorus is five times more than in modern metals, but there is practically no sulfur and manganese.

In order to somehow inscribe the existing pillar in modern history, it was suggested that such a pure metal was simply found and it was nothing more than a processed piece of meteorite.
But how it (the meteorite) was forged into a pillar is also not explained and is a big mystery.
Some experts claim that the column was assembled in pieces and the iron was “welded” together. There were even those who personally saw fastenings on the pole made by human hands.
A gift from heaven or an artifact of an unknown civilization
The Qutuba Column is a truly unique artifact of the past, which raises many questions, to which there are no answers yet. And dating of 1500 years is based only on engraving.
