An organization specializing in the study of anomalous phenomena operates in Kazan. They are studying poltergeists, ghosts, and the appearance of aliens. The head of the Cosmopoisk research group, Maria Petrova, told the ProKazan.ru website how to determine the anomalous zone by eye, how UFOs differ from aliens, and what to do if a poltergeist is in the house.
What does Cosmopoisk do? What is the organization researching?
- "Cosmopoisk" is an international movement exploring little-studied, including anomalous phenomena and other borderline and breakthrough areas in science. We are interested in such little-studied areas as ufology, pyrokinesis, stalking, archeology, history, astronautics and much more.
What expeditions have you conducted?
- The most interesting areas for research were such areas as Verkhneuslonsky, Spassky, Tetyushsky, Kamsko-Ustinsky. We try to pay attention to any possible anomalies, for example, in nature it can be a group of very curved trees in a certain area or circles on the grass.
We also pay attention to stories about unusual phenomena, such as Lake Karakul, in which, according to legend, a water bull is found, or local legends in villages, for example, the story of mermaids in the village of Priboy. There were also cases when we went to settlements where domestic animals died as a result of an attack by a predator, as the locals assume, Chupacabras.
Have you ever seen a UFO?
- If we talk about my personal experience of observations, then there were a couple of cases when an object was actually seen that could not be recognized as a well-known aircraft - an airplane or a helicopter, but this also did not fit the most famous UFO categories.

For example, I saw how a small luminous object flew off the plane, like a small star, and flew on its own in its own way. Although some of my colleagues were much more fortunate: they managed to shoot a UFO on video or observe an object flying directly overhead.
How are aliens different from UFOs?
- UFOs and aliens are not always the same thing. A UFO is an unidentified flying object that could not be recognized. And such cases are about 10 out of 100. There were, of course, 2-3 cases when an eyewitness not only observed UFOs, but also received information telepathically from aliens, but this was a situation concerning the observer. For example, in Derbyshki in the 80s, a woman watched a red ball through the window, it hovered next to the house. She told them that she did not want to fly away, she was scared, and that they would leave them alone. And he disappeared.
Have UFOs visited Kazan?
- Quite recently, on January 24, at about 19.00 pm, a resident of Kazan noticed a cigar-shaped object in the sky, which quickly flew over the Kirov region from the north. The object was larger than the aircraft and the flight speed was significantly higher than that of the aircraft. The lower part of the UFO was glowing with red light, and the upper part with orange. Its position was horizontal.
And on January 25, in the area of the old airport at 17 o'clock, a bright star was observed among the absolutely clear sky, similar in intensity to the planet Venus, at an angle of 80 degrees from the point of observation. From the moment of detection, the glow lasted for about 1 minute, after which it gradually extinguished without changing position. It can be assumed that this is a UFO.
Are there many anomalies in the modern world? What do ordinary people overlook and what catches your eye?
- More than enough. After all, first of all, an anomaly is a deviation from the norm, and there are cases that cannot be immediately explained. If I have to visit a new place, be it going out into nature or staying in a new room, I try to pay attention to the general atmosphere and energy of the place. In nature, this can be more pronounced due to vegetation or landscape.
For example, in August we investigated "dancing" birches in the Pestrechinsky district on the Mesha river. There, about 30 trees on one side of the ravine have curvatures of 90 degrees, or even stretch along the ground. We believe that their growth was influenced by some additional factor that created the hepatogenic zone.

Are there any abnormal places in Kazan? If so, where?
- Rather, they can be called interesting depending on the features. For example, the city center is already interesting in itself due to its historical and cultural heritage. Suffice it to recall the story about the serpent Zilant, who lived on Mount Zilant and there he once had a cave where he hid. And of course, the city center is hard to imagine without ghosts and places where you can meet them. Therefore, we made a map on which we mark such places, not only in Kazan, but also in the Republic of Tatarstan.
Tell about ghost hunters. How different is the real image from the Hollywood one?
“It differs mainly because it was work for the Hollywood ghostbusters. We do this in our free time, mainly out of research interest. We don't have such cool equipment as a "ghost trap" and it's not even about funding.
Basically, the goal is not to physically catch him, but firstly, to confirm this phenomenon (for example, to fix it in a photo or video), and secondly, to understand what caused the appearance of the ghost in this house. It is possible that thanks to this, the issue will be resolved.

How to understand that a poltergeist lives in a house? And how to get rid of it?
- A real poltergeist is a rather infrequent phenomenon, one might even say rare. It does not refer to such a concept as a ghost, they are different things. A poltergeist is characterized, first of all, by the spontaneous movement of objects: things can fly, fall, disappear and appear in different places. There can also be water poltergeists, fire ones. This phenomenon, most often, is associated with someone from the tenants of the house / apartment itself, where it occurs.
First of all, these are children and adolescents who may have a difficult period - conflicts at home or at school, and they have spontaneous emissions of energy. A poltergeist has both active phases and rest periods. Getting rid of it is difficult enough.
There are cases when such a phenomenon occurs 1-2 times and disappears forever, but more often it lasts for several weeks, or even months, and then disappears by itself. But in any case, it is important to observe here what preceded the next manifestation of the poltergeist in order to understand the reason for its appearance.
