According to experts' calculations, at the moment about hundreds of thousands of tons of garbage should float in the World Ocean. However, the latest analysis showed less dire consequences of human activity. According to a researcher from the University of Pompeu Fabra Richard Sole, the decrease in the amount of plastic waste in the waters of the world's oceans is not associated with physical processes.
The specialist and his colleagues are confident that there is currently a sharp increase in the population of microbes that can process plastic. Scientists emphasize that the decomposition of plastic into smaller particles cannot be called a positive process, because it becomes much easier for marine life to eat waste. Experts predict that by 2050 the stomachs of all seabirds and most fish will contain plastic.
