I have already proposed such an unusual version of the purpose of the lingam in some of my publications. But here I would like to tell you more about this version.

So. Version. The prototype of the linga-yoni (lingam) was part of a kind of rotary device with a crimp device.

But first, it's worth recalling what scheme some researchers suggest:

It is possible not to mention the classical versions that historians suggest to us - they are well known: the lingam is identified with the phallus (erect male member), and the yoni with the female vulva …

So, what does such a strange complex construction mean (in the diagram above)? I tried to figure it out.

If we pay attention to the elements of the lingam, then, from a technical point of view, a number of interesting details can be distinguished. I will offer my explanations.

The upper part of the lingam is nothing more than a detail. The detail is quite ordinary by our standards - the handle of a certain rotary device. What kind of rotary device it is, I will tell below.

At first glance, the lingam and the handle of the rotary device do not have a single similarity, but it only seems so … if you do not look closely.

Here you can clarify: the handle of the rotary device is the same as the lamb on the valve (any plumbing analogue for an example) and what it is needed for is clear (it serves to transfer torque to the shaft / rod, which, in turn, moves that that is attached to it).

Let's compare. Doesn't it look like anything?

In my opinion, the linga-yoni (lingams) may have some very real and material prototype, which the ancient inhabitants of Southeast Asia could observe and remember, and later create such copies.

For clarity, I made a reconstruction of the image of the original device (modern product), based on its stone copy:

Noteworthy is the almost perfect coincidence in the image of the "chamfers" on both devices and the appearance of the upper part (around the "bolts").

What kind of prototype was it and how could it be observed?

The simplest commonplace assumption is the sluice gates on the dam. Since only the upper part was visible above the surface of the water, then the objects-copies of the "gods" were subsequently recreated also only by their appearance of the upper part.

The thing is that lingams are sometimes found not only one by one, but also several units at once, lined up in a single row (several rows), often in the water. From the point of view of the similarity of this design with the technical device shown schematically below, this arrangement is also quite understandable. If suddenly there is a need to ensure the synchronous operation of several rotary devices, then when they are located in one row to coordinate the work, it is enough to add to them only a single system of elements - pushers.

It is quite possible that from the very beginning, the primitive witnesses of the functioning of such a prototype of the lingam, apparently, absolutely did not understand the true meaning of what was happening. But they considered these objects a cult of ritual worship, and subsequently recreated these objects in stone. If we take a modern example, then their fellows from the Pacific islands have done the same in our time.

Let me remind you a little about the cargo cult. During World War II, local natives began to worship American planes, and when the “gods” left them, they recreated “incredible divine objects” from life-size branches and palm leaves - planes, headphones, and the like …

Returning to the lingams, it should be noted that the forms of such devices are very different even for modern products (what can we say about the forms of stone "cargo"). However, the general assembly scheme is seen in such artifacts in a completely identical manner. Therefore, there is nothing surprising in the fact that such stone copy objects have different versions.
