In the Gulf of Naples, just off the coast of the Italian region of Campania, there is a double islet (consisting of two halves connected by a narrow stone bridge) called Gaiola. The island attracts tourists and vacationers, as it is distinguished by its picturesque nature, an excellent beach, an interesting abandoned villa, and even getting to it is a couple of trifles, since the mainland, as they say, is within easy reach. However, in spite of all the above-described advantages, the Gaiola islet is uninhabited, or rather, no one lives on it, although it would seem … Besides, every tourist who comes here for the first time is surprised: has someone built a luxurious villa on it? …

Cursed place

Italians themselves (local residents of Campania) consider this place cursed, calling the mysterious island a murderer. According to local legend, a hermit sorcerer once lived on Gaiola. He was an ascetic who lived in a cave and was content with fruits and vegetables that the island gave him. But once this wizard simply disappeared, and no one knows what really happened to him. However, his disappearance was a real curse for the island itself …

True, over time, the true state of affairs began to be forgotten, and soon there was someone who wanted to settle here - he built a villa on Gaiola. Unfortunately, the name of this enterprising man did not survive, but the Italians retained the story of the strange death of the owner of the villa - sudden and not clear from what … One could write off this death as an accident, but it was followed by a whole chain of the same sudden and strange deaths of the heirs who tried to settle down and live in a luxurious villa on a mysterious island. All this served to the fact that Gajola began to be considered a cursed place.

True, this did not frighten the rich young Hans Brown, who bought the island with a villa and settled in it with his beautiful wife. This was in 1920. The newlyweds were immensely happy and hoped to live in this paradise for an infinitely long time. But one day the girl went to the mainland for something, and when she returned, she found her lover dead. Moreover, the corpse of Hans was strangely wrapped in a bedside carpet, while no traces of violent death were found on the body of the deceased … The death of the girl herself, which happened a week later, seemed even stranger to the locals - the corpse of Mrs. Brown was found in the waters of the bay …

For a long time no one dared to settle on the accursed island, but in the end there was found a convinced atheist who did not believe in any mystical stories, Otto Grunbach, a German by birth, died in the villa soon from a heart attack. The same fate befell another skeptic, Maurice Sandoz, who laughed at all these "fictional horror films" by Guyola, but suddenly … committed suicide. And this despite the fact that this lover of life suffered least of all suicidal tendencies …

The last owner

The last owner of Gaiola was a certain Fiat Gianni Agnelli, who did not even dare to visit the island, let alone spend the night in a villa. As he himself claimed, this cursed possession dominated him and his family even from a distance. Immediately after the acquisition of the island, misfortunes fell on Agnelli's relatives: the son hanged himself, his beloved nephew died of cancer, not to mention the smaller tragedies in the life of the hapless Fiat. In the end, the island was handed over to the district, but the villa has since been simply abandoned.

Would you like to purchase this exotic property? They say that it is sheer trifles. However, the mysterious island, together with the once luxurious (even today outwardly attractive) villa, is not of interest for some reason even to rich suicides, not to mention entrepreneurs (by the way, one of those who wanted to organize a tourist business here also ended badly - in a strange way quickly went bankrupt and put a bullet in his temple). So there are still no people who want to buy Gaiola and are not even expected, but there are more than enough people like that to relax on an exotic island, listen to scary stories about it …
