Archaeologists have discovered burial chambers located in an ancient pyramid in Sudan, located north of Khartoum. According to representatives of the SUNA news agency, currently all artifacts found during the excavation are under laboratory research.
Burial chambers are located at a depth of 10 meters. Excavations in the Meroe area began a few months ago and are carried out with the assistance of UNESCO specialists. The World Heritage Site is considered one of the largest clusters of pyramids on the continent, with buildings reaching 30 meters in height.
During the excavations, experts found not only ancient artifacts, but also the bones of animals and people. According to scientists, it has not yet been possible to determine their exact age, which is why they were sent for laboratory research. Scientists note that animals were buried together with people according to ancient traditions, according to which pets were supposed to lead the owners into the world of spirits.
Pyramids in Sudan are structures with narrow bases and rounded corners. Researchers note that they were erected by the Nubian civilization between 700 and 300 BC.
