Canopus and Tonis-Heraklion are ancient cities that I have never written about in my articles. But I try to make the articles on my channel varied and in this speech I decided to tell you about these ancient cities that went under water.

Canopus and Tonis-Heraklion existed in the fifth century and were located in the Nile delta. The cities survived the change of more than one regime and survived, and who knows how long they would have stood if they had not gone under water for unknown reasons. As researchers and archaeologists say, the cities disappeared almost suddenly and this event happened about 1200-1250 years ago, but the population of the cities (almost in full) was safely saved. At the moment, more than a thousand ancient artifacts have already been found.

Among them are jewelry with jewelry and golden statues, as well as the wreckage of dozens of ships that sank in the Nile River near Canopus and Tonis Heraklion. Some of the researchers of antiquity compare the cities with the legendary Atlantis, because there is a hypothesis that it also went under water and has not yet been found. The cities were amazing and combined both Egyptian and Greek culture.

At the moment, there is no proven reason why cities could go under water and therefore only different versions of past events appear. It is possible that this happened due to a strong earthquake. Interestingly, no more than five percent of the total area of cities has now been explored, and it is possible that in the future, scientists will find out the true cause of flooding.
