The unusual burial was discovered by scientists from the Mexican National Institute of Anthropology and History. During excavations in the Tlalpan region of the Mexican capital, archaeologists have found ten human skeletons lying on their sides. Their bodies formed a spiral. The burial is 2.4 thousand years old.
Most of the skeletons are from adolescents, although one is from an adult. One skeleton belonged to a child aged 3 - 5 years, another - to an infant about a month old.
Two skeletons were identified as female, one as male. The gender of the rest is currently being determined.
What caused their death is still unclear, but judging by the location of their skeletons, it can be assumed that the burial was part of some kind of ritual.
The bodies were buried with earthen bowls, pots of various sizes, and earthen spheres.

Some skeletons retain traces of deformation of the skull and teeth - a common practice among local peoples.
