When secular people call some place "damned" - it's interesting. Several addresses in Yekaterinburg are strongly associated with notoriety - no bars and restaurants can last more than a year there. The worst reputation is at the house on Anton Valek, 15 - four establishments have visited its walls, but none have taken root. There was only a sign and an inscription: "Thank you for being with us." We asked Danis Glinstein, the finalist of the show "Battle of Psychics", to tell us about the secrets of the "damned" places of Yekaterinburg. After going around five addresses, we learned what prevents restaurateurs from building a successful business and whose spirits live in those houses.
Lenin, 44
The Legend 1707 / Mr. Bar / Birch
Recently in Yekaterinburg the craft beer bar Birch, which appeared in the city in February, was closed. Even before the opening, the crowd was betting on whether the bar would hold out for at least a year. The fact is that two establishments have already closed before Birch on Lenin, 44 - the Legend 1707 restaurant, which has worked for more than five years, and Mr. Bar, who died in just two months. So the place got a bad name. The closed door of the nearby Yellow Submarine did not add to optimism.

The Beatles fan club has existed for almost 15 years. But two years ago, he had to leave the basement on Lenin Street, 46 - the bomb shelter in which the bar was located was going to be used for its intended purpose.
The windows of Birch are covered with cellophane - in just a few days it acquired an uninhabited look. To the left of the bar is the even more abandoned Yellow Submarine. The establishments were located in different buildings, but due to the fact that the buildings are close to each other, it seems that this is one long room. True, there is a door between the houses that leads to the courtyard. Danis immediately approaches her and goes into the tunnel.

- The institutions have problems only on this corner. Energy goes here, - Danis points to the through opening between the buildings. - Stick it up - and it will be good. There was not a single leader who came to work first for pleasure, and then for money. Projects for the sake of money do not survive, they provide an opportunity to earn money for the first year, and in the second or third they are necessarily closed. There is no mysticism in this house, just a failed energy, dishonesty of business relations.
When we again go out to the sunny Lenin Avenue, Danis once again glances at the Birch sign and says:
- You know, there is an atmosphere of French cozy cafes here. The number four (address Birch - Lenin, 44) is a symbol of a family, a home. A married couple with many children can do business here. I don't think there have been such people here yet.
Mamina-Sibiryak, 141
"Lakmuss" / "Teatralnoe" cafe / "Seoul"
In this house, there were two establishments close to each other: the Lakmuss coffee house and the Seoul restaurant of Korean cuisine, which replaced the Teatralnoye cafe.
In the place of the coffee shop, which closed this year, there is the Kosmos culinary, in the place of Seoul there is now nothing. According to Danis Glinstein, establishments at this place are closed due to the fact that the spirit of a lonely and rich man is wandering in the house.

As soon as we entered Kosmos and sat down at the table, Danis immediately said:
- There was some kind of charitable organization that did not bring money, something harmonious, human, not related to business. It was about home, motherhood, good pies. Therefore, the pie, by the way, should hold out here.
When Danis laid out the cards and looked around, he added:
- There was a family, ate at a large table. But then there was a revolution or a war, and this place became a refuge or some kind of government organization. The head of the family, a man, was killed, possibly shot, - Danis took out another card from the deck. “Inverted God” is a very bad card. From that moment on, the place seemed to be cursed, and this man was very rich and very wise. He either wrote something, composed, or worked in the mayor's office, was an official. His spirit remained here.
I look around the spacious green-and-white Kosmos culinary room. In such an environment, it is absolutely impossible to believe in ghosts (this is not a tunnel for you!).
“The spirit will not leave until it finds its Galatea,” Danis continues. - He cannot escape, we need to help him - the priests must clean the room, such a nasty energy of his presence. He does not let anyone in here - people who come into this business start to lose health, they are pursued by misfortunes.
Every now and then, visitors to the cooking pass by us, but when they hear about spirits, almost everyone slows down and looks around. Someone recognizes Danis, but does not dare to stop.
- Spirit, you won't let anyone in here? - Danis asks, peering at the cards. “He said that if he liked a woman businessman, he would calm down.
Lunacharsky, 82
"Chickens Tobacco" / "Take the Lamb" / "Stolle"
In November last year on Lunacharskogo, 82, the restaurant "Pelmeni Club" ventured to open. Before him, the restaurants "Chicken Tabaka" and "Take the Lamb" and the Pie "Stolle" had already tried their luck at this place. This summer, the Lakmuss coffee shop, which moved from Mamina-Sibiryak Street, became a neighbor of the Pelmeni Club. Despite the fact that institutions are steadily replacing each other, Danis Glinstein believes that there is nothing mystical about it.

We go around the establishments in hot weather for the Ural summer - about 20-25 degrees. While we get to Lunacharskoe, Danis reminds us of the forecast that he gave us at the beginning of summer: July will be rainy, and August will be warm. The summer veranda of Lakmussa is expected to be full of people.
“There is a lot of talk,” Danis says, but he is not talking about the present, but about the past of this place. - Maybe in Soviet times there was a restaurant or a large organization. I see people here.
He begins to lay out the cards and for the first time they all turn out to be light.
- There is no negative. Nothing hinders this place, there is success, the main thing is a good strategy. The numerology of place 82 means “road”, “partnership”, so it is advisable for people to do business here by visitors and, possibly, open an Italian, French, Armenian or Georgian restaurant.
True, "Take a lamb", which combined Uzbek, Georgian and Armenian cuisine at Lunacharsky, 82 still did not take root.
When we were getting into a taxi, Danis repeated the name of the coffee house with surprise.
- "Lakmuss" … You can't call an institution that way - it will burn like litmus paper.

The Pajamas sign is still hanging. Since winter 2015, there has been an announcement behind the glass: “Dear guests, […] the Pajama restaurant is not open. Thank you for being with us. " But they started calling this place "damned" back in 2013. By that time, three restaurants had already closed there - "Vatel", "Paganini" and "Chianti", they all belonged to the restaurateur Alexei Nagornov.
Until 2011, the French restaurant Vatel was the favorite place of the Yekaterinburg elite. When he closed, he was seen off on his last journey with all the honors: with a hearse and a coffin. All guests wore black. In 2012, Aleksey Nagornov planned to open Villa de Basilio in his place - an establishment with a luxurious interior and two British cats in diamond collars. But the invited manager Vasily Savchenko had other plans - to open an inexpensive restaurant with national cuisine. This is how Paganini, a family restaurant with Italian cuisine, appeared, which was often criticized by visitors due to the discrepancy between price and quality. The restaurant didn't even last until the end of the year. Already in the fall, at the same place, Nagornov organized the opening of another establishment - this time the Italian bar "Chianti". About one hundred liters of wine were drunk that evening. In addition to alcohol, the audience was entertained by Kolyan and Vovan from Real Boys. In the spring of the following year, Nagornov himself closed the bar - the institution turned out to be unprofitable.
In the fall of 2013, the young chef Ilya Korshunov took a closer look at the "damned" place and opened his "Pajamas". When he was asked questions about whether he was afraid to build a business in a house with such a rich but unsuccessful history, Korshunov replied that he would be able to overcome the curse. The restaurant even has a charm - a button, which should scare away evil forces. According to rumors, 10 million rubles were invested in the project. Two years later, Pajamas closed.

Danis reads the notice on the door of the Pajamas. Just in case, he pulls the door in disbelief. A man in a starched shirt walks by and says sternly:
- It's closed there.
- We know, - we answer him.
The man looks at us with displeasure and leaves. On the way, she looks around again. Danis tries to tune in, but he is distracted by a woman who speaks Spanish - she runs by, arguing passionately with someone on the phone. Danis shakes his head.
“There was gambling here,” he says. - The feeling that when they played preference here, they sat with cigars. I see old massive things that are left inside - either chandeliers or candelabra. The feeling that a bohemian is gathering here, which can play cards, smoke cigars and drink rum or other drinks that were prohibited here. It was always a pretentious place with a good price tag and was visited by rich people. There can be no pancake or wine glass here.
House on Anton Valek, 15 is on the corner. We go around it in an arc and again return to "Pajamas".
- Corner things are the worst. Even worse than that opening in the wall [near Birch]. The corner energy is the most slippery, it takes the energy of space.
According to Danis, apart from the unfortunate location at the house number 15, it's not a very good story.
- Either this house, or this place has a kind, it cannot bring good luck to one person, or there should be just offices. You see, it's as if you were moving into an apartment where twenty generations have lived before you. You will feel like a stranger there. Neither the church nor the priest will help to clean this place. No matter what is opened here - a bank, a shop, a stall, a restaurant - nothing will work. Only an understanding of the genus will save: until a person enters the archives and looks at which generation has lived here the longest. A person must understand who was the last in the family and go to him in the cemetery.

Old Dublin / Dublin Public House
At the end of 2016, the iconic Dublin, the oldest Irish pub in Yekaterinburg, was closed. The restaurant owner Valentin Kuzyakin was responsible for restarting the establishment.

This restaurant will be here for at least two years. - says Danis, putting his hand to the wall of the restaurant. - The place is good: everything is harmonious, natural. In the Soviet period, this was probably a very blissful area - something like the Old Arbat. There was a lot of greenery here and there was no road: such a calm, quiet street like French streets. I don't see anything destructive here.
