Scientists in the United States, searching for versions of the causes of the complete extinction of dinosaurs, which dominated the planet for millions of years, have come to an interesting conclusion. In their opinion, this could have happened under the influence of dark matter.

Experts made calculations together with astronomers. According to them, it turned out that during the time when dinosaurs inhabited the Earth, the planet could have a passage through a disk consisting of dark matter.

This, scientists believe, led to the destabilization of asteroids in the Oort cloud, and sharply increased the likelihood of their collision with the Earth. The subsequent "bombardment" of the planet with these cosmic bodies caused processes that resulted in the complete disappearance of dinosaurs. This version was voiced by Lisa Rendel and Matton Rees, both working at Harvard University.

Scientists have long assumed there is a disc of dark matter in the Milky Way. According to their information, the Earth passes through it once every 35 million years. And the previous time it happened was during the beginning of the extinction of the dinosaurs.
