A rather unusual find became known on November 21, 2018, according to the RIA Novosti news agency, citing the website of the Moscow Region Ministry of Culture. Sergey Lev, the head of the research expedition, said that his employees managed to find the treasure during excavations at the Zaraisk site of ancient people. By the way, the object is considered a monument of the Paleolithic times, and the age of the artifacts contained here may exceed 23,000 years!
In the course of excavations, archaeologists discovered the dwelling of a primitive man. One of the most remarkable finds at the Zaraisk site was a mammoth skull, inside which various objects were placed. The "treasure" was a set of flint knives and blanks that were to be used for hunting and labor tools.
What made the ancient people in a hurry to leave the site and not even take their property with them? The researchers have no answer to this question. We can only say that the ancient world was a rather dangerous place, and troubles awaited our ancestors literally at every step.
It is not the first time that the Zaraisk site has presented scientists with interesting material for research. Archaeologists have already found mammoth bones and tusks here, skeletal fragments, teeth and even whole jaws. The researchers also found a hearth with traces of ocher (apparently, the red paint was supposed to symbolize blood and was used in the rituals of sacrifice). The hearth itself was filled with the burnt remains of "gifts to the gods" - the skeletons of birds and small animals.
