In 1974, amazing ancient stone sculptures were accidentally discovered on agricultural land near Monte Prama (Sardinia). These huge statues are unique in size and material, of which very little is known.
Mysterious ancient sculptures, unlike ordinary people, were deliberately hidden in the basement of the museum. They are believed to belong to the Nuragic civilization that flourished in Sardinia for two millennia until the beginning of the second century AD. Excavations have revealed 30 giant stone statues about two meters high.
The figures of giants are distinguished by their unearthly eyes, which consist of a pair of concentric circles. They were discovered in the necropolis, and the theory arose that stone warriors guarded the tombs.
According to another version, the statues belong to a temple not yet discovered nearby. This is the only life-size sculptural group of warriors ever found in Europe.
Judging by some of their sizes, the figures resemble the famous Chinese terracotta warriors. However, their appearance and material are different. Compared to terracotta statues, the Sardinian giants are 500 years older and are made of stone, not ceramic.

The giants of Monte Prama are without doubt one of the most incredible and amazing discoveries ever made on the Italian island of Sardinia. However, there has been no thorough research and there seems to be no interest in these enigmatic 2,700-year-old ancient figures, sometimes referred to as prehistoric cyber warriors.
Unfortunately, shortly after their discovery, the giants of Monte Prama were "abandoned" for 32 years in the Cagliari Museum. They were kept in a damp and dark place. In 2005 alone, funds were allocated to carry out the difficult task of restoring the statues.
In total, archaeologists have discovered more than 5000 items, and it is not known whether all of them have been found. It was a big daunting task to put the pieces together. The renovation was completed in 2011. The researchers cleaned the pieces and reassembled the figures.
Twenty-five warriors of the giants saw the light again at the Museum of Cagliari in the south of Sardinia. They are divided into three types:
- 16 wrestlers carrying shields over their heads;
- 5 archers;
- 4 warriors equipped with bows, shields, swords, armor and horned helmets.

Also, from the fragments found, 13 models of massive conical stone castles built by the Nuragic culture were collected.
After long oblivion, now people are finally allowed to see the valuable archaeological discovery of Sardinia - the giants of Monte Prama.
