In Brazil, an unusual case was recorded: a 30-year-old woman still has the body of a one-year-old child. Maria Audete do Nasqumento was born on May 7, 1981, but looks like a one year old child
Her entire family consists of a father and his second wife, who took care of Maria. Her own mother died 13 years ago. The family cannot afford to seek medical help, although Maria really needs it. After all, a woman cannot serve herself, speak and generally live at least like a child of gardening age, and not a baby.
Experts from the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Ceara believe that Maria suffers from a disease associated with a hormonal disorder of the thyroid gland - hypothyroidism. As a result of hypothyroidism, her body was never able to develop physically and mentally. They also said that if the disease had been detected early, then Maria might have grown up as a normal child.
The university agreed to provide free medical treatment for Maria, to give her the opportunity to be a little more independent - to walk, eat and say a few words.
