Computer performance is constantly improving. This is achieved through all the miniaturization of electronic circuits, high frequencies and currents. Every two years, the number of transistors in a microcircuit per unit area doubles, which made it possible to appear all types of modern personal computers.

However, the situation with supercomputers is rather ambiguous - modern models occupy half of the football field in area. In this case, the density of the arrangement of microcircuits from the total occupied volume is one millionth part. For comparison: in the human brain, neurons occupy about 40%. This is due to the need for air cooling of microcircuits. The difference between man and computer in this respect is gigantic, and IBM specialists are planning to solve this problem by reducing the supercomputer of the future by 10,000 times.

According to Matthias Kaiserwerth, director of research at IBM Corporation, the supercomputers of the future will have much more similarity to biosystems. The architecture of their microcircuits in the bionic concept will be three-dimensional: the chips will be located on top of each other, and the so-called electronic blood will circulate between the layers. It is an electrolyte that supplies current to the system and simultaneously cools the system. According to experts, a similar system may appear within the next 10 years. If this principle is implemented, the efficiency of computer systems will increase 10,000 times: a qualitative leap will occur, which will usher in the era of artificial intelligence.
