pink discharges that occur in the atmosphere of the Earth and other planets are accompanied by nuclear reactions, as a result of which particles of antimatter appear. Such incredible conclusions were made by scientists from Japan who studied lightning.

Employees of the Kyoto University made observations of lightning, and as a result, they found out that three different types of gamma-ray bursts occur during a thunderstorm discharge - the first burst lasts only one millisecond, the second - tens of milliseconds, and the third - a whole minute.

“It turned out that the first signal is a direct burst of radiation, the second is the result of secondary emission, but the third, the longest and most interesting, is evidence of the existence of a photonuclear reaction, in which positrons, that is, antiparticles of electrons, are formed,” Japanese scientists say.

Lightning, to the surprise of researchers, is accompanied by real annihilation, that is, a reaction between matter and antimatter. The same processes take place on other planets where lightning is recorded, for example, on Jupiter. And this fact, as experts conclude, plays an important role in the formation of the isotopic composition of the planetary atmospheres.
