Russian engineers are increasingly taking up the development of cars with electric motors and artificial intelligence. Recently, the Bakulin Motors Group concern shared its plans to create a hybrid all-terrain vehicle with an automatic driving system, and now the New Technologies of Siberia company has shared its plans - it assures that the electric car it is developing has no analogues. What's so special about him?
The electric car under development is called Monarch, and RUSNANO and a number of universities in Kazan, St. Petersburg and Novosibirsk are working on its creation. According to the developers, thanks to exclusive technical solutions, the car will have an automatic driving system and a battery that charges in just 3.6 minutes.
Monarch car with graphene battery
By "unparalleled" technologies, the developers mainly mean the graphene-magnesium battery. According to them, there are seven kilowatt-hours of capacity per kilogram of its mass, which batteries from competing companies cannot boast of. According to the researchers' calculations, the new type of battery will be able to fully charge in just 3.6 minutes.
In its structure, it resembles common lithium-polymer batteries, but, naturally, completely different electrochemical processes take place inside. The developers see two ways to create graphene-magnesium batteries: in the first, alternating graphene and silicon plates can serve as the cathode, and lithium cobaltate can serve as the anode. In the second version, it is proposed to replace lithium cobaltate with cheap magnesium oxide - this is the type of battery, apparently, and the developers are going to use.
Benefits of graphene-magnesium batteries:
- light weight, since the mass of one square meter of graphene is 0.77 grams;
- high conductivity;
- strength and water resistance;
- safety for the environment;
- high capacity, capable of reaching 1000W / h per 1 kilogram;
- easy repair.

Other features of the Russian electric car "Monarch"
The developers claim that in addition to the battery, the car has many other features. For example, electric motors with a capacity of 100 to 150 kilowatts can be put on each of its axles - you can implement front, rear or all-wheel drive.
Engineers ensure that the battery charge is sufficient to cover distances from 500 to 1000 kilometers. Thanks to the electromagnetic suspension, the battery will be able to charge while driving, due to moving parts, which simultaneously act as an electricity generator.
The developers also mention an automatic piloting system that will scan the road surface using ultrasound. The car will be able to learn about traffic jams, road accidents and weather thanks to the Internet connection.
Will Monarch go on sale?
The release of the first Monarch car worth up to 4 million rubles is scheduled for 2021, but such a plan raises serious doubts. Most of the components of an electric vehicle are currently under development and testing. Most of all concerns are caused by the graphene battery - so far only the Spanish company Graphenano has announced its successful creation, and its version was charged in 7-10 minutes.
The developers themselves are confident that they will finish what they started. In the presentation file, they emphasized that Russian engineers have extensive experience with electric motors, especially in the military field. Also, the Monarch project brought together many experts in the field of conservation and use of electrical energy.
