In the northwest of Canada, in the valley of the South Nahanni River, lies the valley of the same name. Its total area is 540 kilometers. Part of the river is part of the national park, which is a UNESCO heritage site. The nature here is very diverse: more than 750 species of plants grow on the territory of the river basin, more than 40 species of mammals, 180 species of birds live, and 16 species of fish are found in the river itself. But what is even more surprising than the diversity of local nature - mysterious cases of disappearance of people.

The first such incident occurred in the fall of 1959. A group of five desperate gold prospectors decided to explore the valley. They stocked up on food and the necessary uniforms. Then they hired a plane, which was supposed to deliver the adventurers and gold to a given place, and after a while, on a strictly agreed day, to pick up people. But on the very day, when the gold prospectors were about to return, the plane did not arrive for them. The unfortunate ones were actually trapped in the forest, while the supplies were almost over, and the harsh Canadian winter was approaching ahead.

One of the men surrendered before the others and committed suicide. True, later some suggested that he could have been killed and eaten by his own comrades in misfortune. Two more gold diggers went on foot to the nearest village. However, no one ever saw them again. The remaining two men, by some miracle, overwintered in a shack they built, and only in the spring they were found by rescuers thanks to an SOS signal trampled in the snow. Then, at the trial, the pilot, who was obliged to take the men out, swore by oath that he flew to the designated place several times, but there was no one there. They didn't believe him then.

This tragedy impressed one producer so much that he decided to shoot a documentary based on her. For this, he, along with the film crew, went to the same place. There people set up a camp for themselves and began to work. When their food supplies began to run out, the producer himself volunteered to fly to the nearest city for food. But he did not come back.

The plane on which the producer flew away was searched carefully and for a long time - 40 days. And only after this time, only eight miles from the camp, he was found. Surprisingly, search planes have flown over this place many times. A crashed plane, a broken camp and a producer's diary were found. In it, he described in detail the last days of his life.

It turned out that the plane took off with difficulty due to the heavy load. On the way to the camp, a cloud of dense fog suddenly appeared, after which a mountain rose up in front of the pilot as if from the ground. But since the plane was overloaded, it was not able to quickly gain the required altitude. Interestingly, the pilot barely suffered from the fall.

At first, the producer decided that this was not a very big problem: he had a lot of food supplies, a gun, gasoline and even a working radio. And he did not reach quite a bit - they would quickly find him. But the expectations were in vain - the producer was never found. But his further notes very much surprised the people who read them. The weather descriptions were very different from what the rest of the crew observed. The producer wrote that it snowed every day, so every day he had to tread a path along which he could be noticed. Although the weather was completely clear in the camp, and the visibility was one hundred percent. Also, the radio refused to pick up any signals.

After some time, the man began to make fires - none of the people nearby saw them either. He also wrote that he heard the sound of planes flying over him, which for some reason did not notice either paths in the snow, or then a column of black smoke from behind the fire. After a while, the producer wrote that his legs were frostbitten. Although the rescuers examined the territory for a long time even after the discovery of the plane and the diary, no remains or traces of it were found.

Other gold prospectors who visited the valley, as well as locals, talk about various anomalous phenomena: here either winter and 50-degree frosts were observed right in the middle of a hot summer, then, on the contrary, during winter there was a tropical valley. Some researchers have tried to purposefully find such inappropriate weather conditions in the valley, but they failed. Therefore, the riddle of the amazing South Nahanni Valley continues to await its solution.
