The fact is that the retina of the human eye uses photopsin and rhodopsin pigment molecules to perceive light, while, for example, the vision of some species of river fish is based on porphyropsin, a pigment with which it is possible to recognize light waves in the infrared spectrum.
Rowlands hopes that by eliminating retinol (vitamin A) from his diet, which is necessary for the production of photopsin and rhodopsin, he can force his eyes to use porphyropsin to recognize objects, that is, see the world in the infrared spectrum, like the Predator from the famous film with the participation of Arnold Schwarzenegger.
One can envy many species of animals with abilities that are inaccessible to humans. However, nature still generously endowed Homo Sapiens with imagination and intelligence, which throughout human history have expanded and continue to expand the abilities of people, allowing them to penetrate into areas so far accessible to only a few species of animals.
