American scientist from the University of Pennsylvania Greg Eghigian believes that the "appearance" of UFOs has always depended on the period of the Cold War, as evidenced by the sharp decline in such reports on all channels after its end.
In particular, the historian considered all the phenomena of the appearance of various unidentified objects from 1947 to the present day. He also drew attention to the change in the appearance of UFOs over the years.
So, it turned out that UFOs were essentially a product of the atmosphere of distrust of the Cold War, as the secret services asked citizens to inform them about anything unusual that they might see or learn. This is precisely what explains the 4,000 different kinds of messages received in the first 10 years of the Cold War, which somehow leaked to the press.
However, after the collapse of the USSR, the number of mentions of UFOs in the media dropped significantly. A small spike in such messages was observed in 1997-1998 in several US states, but then everything calmed down again.
Thus, it can be concluded that the emergence of various conspiracy theories is also based on an overblown mistrust between the government and the population.
