Scientists from Italy have uncovered the secret of the longevity of the knights of the Late Middle Ages. According to experts, the Templars paid a lot of attention to their lifestyle and quality food, writes La Stampa.

It is known that the average life expectancy in those days was about 25-40 years, while the knights could live up to 70 years. Research by Italian scientists shows that the secret lies in the healthy and correct lifestyle of the Templars. First, they had a strict dietary system, which involved eating meat no more than three times a week. On other days, meat was replaced with fish, vegetables, herbs and legumes. The knights strictly limited the intake of fatty foods, thereby protecting themselves from heart disease, blood vessels, diabetes and tumors.

The Templars paid special attention to hygiene and the quality of products. They ate only in specially designated places, at clean tables with thoroughly washed hands.
