An international team of scientists from China and Italy will conduct the world's first human head transplant in 2017. A programmer from Russia Spiridonov will be a volunteer for the experiment.
One of the authors of the project is Xiaoping Ren, a 55-year-old surgeon from China, who previously participated in the first successful hand transplant operation. He prepared a new study with the Italian Sergio Canavero, known for a huge number of scientific articles in foreign medical journals.
The first person to survive a head transplant will be Spiridonov, a 31-year-old Russian who lives in Moscow. Due to Werdnig-Hoffmann's illness, he spends most of his time in his apartment. At the same time, the programmer runs a company that develops educational software for a number of Russian schools.
According to information published by The Washington Post, the probability of a successful outcome of the operation is 90%. In order to carry out their plans, specialists will need a team of 80 professional surgeons and a huge amount of investment. Scientists plan to implement the project in China, since in Europe or the United States they may face various problems.
