Now, not only the character played by Leonardo DiCaprio in the movie "Inception" can control sleep. A team of researchers from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) Sleep Lab has designed a device to help track and, to some extent, participate in REM sleep.

“A third of the life we give to watching chaotic, meaningless plots can now be spent profitably,” said Adam Horowitz, an MIT graduate student. “People can change, improve themselves in dreams. It doesn't matter if you're talking about increased memory, creativity, better mood the next day, or increased productivity."

The glove-shaped Dormio device is equipped with a variety of sensors that track the transition to the unconscious phase of the brain. At this moment, the device starts broadcasting an audio signal, most often containing one word. In the message, you can encode what a person wants to see in a dream.

Another similar device, in the sleep phase, in which the body is recovering and memory structuring, begins to emit a certain smell. The aroma enhances the processes of regeneration and putting new knowledge on the shelves.

Sleep lab staff want to go beyond dream programming with a specific signal. Their goal is fully lucid dreams, which at the moment are able to see only 1% of people living on the planet. To make this dream come true, scientists plan to better understand the brain activity during the transition to unconscious activity.
