The American Advanced Research Projects Agency DARPA is investigating the possibility of recalling memories using devices implanted in the brain, so that people who have lost memory due to trauma and certain diseases can regain it. Scientists have already made some progress in this area by stimulating the brain with weak electrical impulses.
The project, which at first glance looks like an excerpt from a science fiction novel, is really being worked out by DARPA specialists, who have no doubts about its success. Unfortunately, like most military initiatives, the scientific program is partially classified, so that the most interesting details are not available to the general scientific community.
The ultimate goal of the Restoring Active Memory project is a compact, wirelessly controlled device that can be implanted directly into the brain, which would be activated on command and begin to stimulate certain areas of the brain, helping to restore existing memories and acquire new ones in people suffering from various memory disorders.
