Hello, friends. For those who are interested in architecture, this article might be interesting.

Probably everyone was interested in the Empire style. It primarily implies a facade with columns and a portico. Typically, Empire-style houses are large and luxurious looking, standing out apart from others. As taught at school, this architectural style came to us from the ancient era, it was used by the powers that be to exalt their own people. Maybe so, but according to the tradition of this magazine, let's not look for a sacred meaning, but plunge into purely unitary things. But to make it easier to perceive the following, it is best to take a dilapidated house as a model, for example, the house of Karatygin from Murom. By the way, the house has a very rich history. In addition to the official one, it should be added that in 1917 the executive committee of the new government was formed in the house, and people were shot in its basements. Not surprisingly, after years, this house, despite the status of a cultural heritage site, it is actually abandoned and dilapidated. But this is already a plot for the battle of psychics, but we will have something different. Probably, this plot will repeat to some extent the Pokrovskie Gates, but rather it will reveal another of the themes of the technical arrangement of old houses. So, no mysticism, we immerse ourselves in the technique. But first, let's take a look at the usual music kiosk, which I once described earlier.

This kiosk served as a regular working place for the orchestra, and at least it was illuminated. It is clear that it was illuminated with electric light, which was not received from wires (the photo can be viewed here). Let's apply some abstraction and move all the columns to the same place, like a curtain, along the central frame. And we will bend the frame itself into a square. We get something like this.

Let's designate the cascades of incomprehensible vases on tiers in the form of cascades 1, 2 and 3. Probably, everyone has already noticed that a certain metal frame of the building in the Empire style has turned out, if not for two BUT - in houses it is laid with masonry, and nowhere (at least in Russia) there are not even traces of vases on the buildings. But back to the Karatygin house. Unfortunately, his old photos are not freely available, the oldest can be dated no earlier than the 2nd half of the 20th century.

If you look closely, the second column from the left has already been replaced, but very clumsy. The current state of the house can be seen in the main photo. As you can see, almost one frame remained from the house, and that one is in disrepair. How can you see our drawing? Let's take a closer look.

In the rear view, the metal connection is clearly visible at the top of the perimeter of the house, in fact, thanks to it, the top of the wall has not yet collapsed. As you can see, the version of the music kiosk frame stretched into a square is confirmed. Let's go further and take a look at the photo of the facade from the inside.

As you can see, from the side of the outer columns, one metal connection goes inside the house, which again confirms our version. Once they formed a closed loop. For what? Let's go further. But here it is necessary to dwell in more detail.

There are details of white stone, which very much looks like geopolymer concrete. But this is not important, but what is important is that the side lintel of the semicircular window is made of it. It turns out that initially it was understood that there was a void under it, which allowed a person to penetrate through this window into a niche above the columns. What purpose? Well, the international word tain immediately comes out, which in European languages means a mercury-containing mixture, and here, oddly enough, it means a cache. And what is the cache for? Of course, for vases from tier 3, and what was in them is clear. But what about the vases of tiers 1 and 2? As always, everything is simple. They were simply knocked down so that no trace of their stay there remained. If you google the Empire style houses somewhere in Europe, they are thriving there. Unless a lot of vases in tier 2 have been replaced by two large ones at the edges. This is exactly what happened once at the Karatygin house. Actually, the photo shows metal connections in that place. If anyone paid attention, then at the place where one metal connection goes out from the inside of the facade, three of them go out from the outside. Obviously, the other two go into the front wall. In total, our drawing has all the rights to exist. And by analogy with a music kiosk, by diverting the bends from the central circuit to the rooms with metal rods, they received a kind of network for hanging lighting fixtures. There is no mysticism, and external aesthetics are deeply secondary here.outside there are three of them. Obviously, the other two go into the front wall. Probably, the question will arise, what are the stone inserts over every second facade window of the second floor for?

It is possible that they also had a cache, as a continuation of tier 3. If you look closely, you can see that the lintels in these windows are made completely different from the others and without a brick lock, as if these windows were laid on a level with the others, but much later … The same can be said about the arched projections on the facade, but only special equipment will help to answer this question more accurately. So architecture looks much more prosaic than frozen or non-frozen music..

Until next time.
