It's worth starting with the fact that the Egyptian Sphinx is one of the largest sculptures in the world, and if you take into account its age, then in the past, most likely, it was the largest sculpture. The sphinx is 72 meters long and 20 meters high.
It is worth saying that sphinxes are found not only in Egypt, but all over the world. Either it was a single civilization, or the Sphinx was created and revered by many, it is already difficult to answer, but the fact remains.

And now the most important thing is age. Any historian will say that they created the Egyptian Sphinx in 2520 BC, taking this into account, it is not hidden that the real age of the object still remains a mystery.
It is believed that in fact the Sphinx in Egypt is about 10-15 thousand years old and was built long before the pyramids. In general, Egypt is a mysterious enough place and it is impossible to determine the age of an object with accuracy. In addition, I believe that modern scientists, quite likely, are often mistaken in determining age, due to the inaccuracy of various analyzes and studies.
At the moment, the most important guideline for the approximate age of the sphinx is water erosion, which is spoken about by almost all researchers and independent experts, but not historians.

According to experts, in order for such traces to remain, the sphinx had to be watered for about several thousand years. And according to climate forecasts in the past, constant rains in Egypt could go in the 10-15 millennium BC.
Again, I believe that modern experts can be wrong with the climate, since it could have become dry two or three thousand years ago, or ten thousand years ago.
In any case, these traces of water erosion can at least prove something.
As a result, it turns out that experts talk about the age of the sphinx, linking it with the nearest temples and pyramids, which may be completely different.
As for the purpose of the Egyptian Sphinx, there are no less mysteries. It is impossible to answer for sure, however, as well as about the purpose of many other structures, but there are some versions.
I adhere to the version that the Sphinx was built as a system that allowed certain people in the past to enter their dungeons, where there may be a library, treasury, city or something else, here you can only guess.
This is difficult to confirm with something, but as far as I remember, somewhere in the temples or at some famous historian (I don’t remember now), detailed descriptions of the automated system, the entrance and admission of “chosen” people to the Sphinx, that is it was supposedly something like a big robot.
It sounds absurd, but it seems to me that ancient civilizations, and even more so Egypt, should not surprise at all with anything, and there could be anything.
What conclusion can be drawn? The Egyptian Sphinx, like the pyramids, is a big mystery, one cannot be sure of this or that version, but I believe that the Sphinx is about 15 thousand years old and in the past, it was built as an entrance to the earth.
It is also worth saying that in our time, premises were found under the sphinx, but when an attempt was made to excavate, the Egyptian authorities banned everything, and this is at least strange.
Whether the above version is actually possible or not, one can only guess, anyway, to find out that under the sphinx is unlikely to ever succeed.
