Archaeologists have discovered an underground city in the province of Hamadan, which is 2,000 years old.
As a result of lengthy excavations, a group of archaeologists discovered an underground city about two thousand years old in the city of Samen, Hamadan province. This was reported by the news agency Khabar online.
According to the head of the department of the Organization for Cultural Heritage, Crafts and Tourism in the province of Hamadan Ali Haksar, the discovered city is located under modern Samn.
The ancient settlement is located 400 km west of Tehran and is about 2,000 years old.
Presumably, it was built between the fall of the Achaemenid Empire (550-330 BC) and the rise of the Parthian Empire (247-224 BC).

Excavations began at Hamadan in 2005 and have been going on for over 10 years.
The underground city consists of interconnected tunnels with 25 rooms that used to serve as houses. So far, the remains of 60 people have been removed from nine rooms.
