The runes combine the data of past years and future events - at least the ancient tribes were sure of this, and the current fans of the occult support the same point of view. Where did these signs come from, and why have runes occupy a special role in culture for so long?
Runes - what are they?
Runes are the alphabet of German settlements that were located in Scandinavia and the surrounding lands. Based on the most common assumption, the runes originate from the language of the Etruscans. Outwardly, these are icons of a sharp, angular shape, which were applied to objects made of different materials. During excavations, even round gold items with runic inscriptions were found.
The longest runic inscription comes from the 19th century. It is placed on a stone that was found near the Swedish city of Røk. The inscription combines 762 runes that tell about the deceased person and the myths that grew around the hostilities of that time.
Magic writing
Runic writing, which appeared as a primordial alphabet, was called magic writing for a reason. In the past, when the life of the settlements was directly dependent on the forces of nature, it was simply necessary to establish contact with various deities. According to legends, it was at this moment that the runes appeared, with the help of which people connected with higher powers. The Germans still believe that the runes engraved on an object give it a certain power.

Runes in the XXI century
An interesting fact, but with the popularization of Christianity in Europe, the writing in the rune language gradually receded back, yielding its role to the Latin alphabet. They significantly influenced the formation of the ideology of nationalism, in other words, the runes became the basis for creating the superiority of the Aryans-Germans over other races and nationalities.
In the last years of the 9th century, the Austrian runologist Guido von List developed and tried to explain his point of view, on the basis of which the runes were revealed to mankind for one purpose - to establish contact with the Aryan gods. During the First World War, a similar idea and system created by a runologist was quite popular, so much so that Guido received telegrams from soldiers from the front, who reported a meeting with runic "divine messages". All this instilled strength and faith in the soldiers.
With the popularization of the idea of the mysterious Third Reich, the Germans often resorted to occult sciences, as they opened expeditions like the search for Shambhala and the Grail. The activity of the runologist created the basis for the ideology of the Nazis, combining the current German traditions with the foundations of their ancestors, who possessed secret skills and with the help of runic records transmitted their knowledge to descendants. Runes were actively used in Nazi symbols, for example, in the formation of the meaning of the SS.
