The most incredible and, at the same time, the most common element in all the cases of visions during clinical death studied, and at the same time making the most profound impression on people, was the encounter with a very bright light.
Usually, this light appears to be rather dim at first, but then it becomes brighter until it finally reaches an unearthly brightness. However, even when this light (usually described as "white" or "clear") becomes indescribably bright, many people note that it does not hurt their eyes, does not blind them, and does not interfere with other objects around them.
Despite all the unusualness of this vision, none of the patients doubts that it was a creature, a living, luminous being. In addition, this creature had a personality. It was definitely some kind of person. The love and warmth that emanated from this creature to the dying person cannot be described in any words.
The dying person feels that this light surrounds and attracts him, feels complete relief and warmth in the presence of this being. He feels an irresistible attraction to this light and is inexplicably attracted to it. Interestingly, while the above description of a luminous creature is amazingly consistent, the identification of this creature by different people is quite different. It depends mainly on the religious environment in which the person was formed, upbringing and personal faith.
Thus, most of those who are Christians by faith or by their upbringing believe that this light is nothing but Christ, and sometimes they cite biblical texts to confirm the correctness of their understanding. The Jews call the light "angel", but in both cases it is obvious that the people did not mean that the creature had wings and played the harp, or at least had human forms and appearance. There was only light, and everyone tried to explain that he perceived the being as a messenger or guide. Nonbelievers and formerly far from religious life simply say that they saw a "luminous creature."
The same term was used by a Christian woman, who, apparently, did not believe that it must necessarily be Christ.
Soon after its appearance, the creature makes contact with the incoming human. It should be noted that this is the same direct type of connection that we encountered earlier when describing how a person, being in a spiritual body, can “catch the thoughts” of those around him. In this case, people also claim that they did not hear a physical voice or sounds emanating from the creature, and did not respond to it with audible sounds.

Rather, it was testified that there was a direct transmission of thoughts, but in such a clear form that any misunderstanding or lies in relation to the light were impossible. Moreover, this sensation does not even occur in a person's native language, but he perfectly understands and perceives everything instantly. He cannot even translate the exchange of thoughts that takes place during the dying state into the language in which he must explain himself after his return to life.
The next phase of the experience clearly illustrates the difficulty of translating this silent exchange of thoughts. The luminous creature almost immediately transmits some definite thought to the person before whom it appeared under such dramatic circumstances. Usually the people I have spoken to try to formulate this thought as a question.
I have heard such versions of his interpretation: "Are you ready for death?", "Are you ready to die?", "What have you done in your life, what can you show me?", "What significant has been done in your life?"
The first two phrases that emphasized “preparedness” may appear at first glance to be different from the last two, which emphasize what is “achieved”.
However, most likely, here we are talking about the fact that everyone is simply trying to express the same idea in their own way. This assumption has some confirmation in the story of one woman, who reported the following: "The first thing he told me was a kind of question: -" Am I ready to die? " or "What has been done in my life that I would like to point out to him?"
Moreover, even in the case when the question is retold in some way quite differently, in the final sense, after clarification, it has the same meaning. For example, one man said: "A voice asked me a question:" Is it worth, that is, my life, wasted time? " That is, do I think that the life that I have lived up to this moment was really not lived in vain from the point of view of what I have learned now?"
At the same time, everyone insists that this question, so deep and summing up, sounding with all the emotional tension, is being asked without any condemnation. All agree that there is no accusation or threat in the matter; all the time they felt only the all-encompassing love and support emanating from the light, no matter what their response might be. Rather, it seems that the content of the question makes them think about their life, to challenge them to frankness.
If you like, this is a question from Socrates, which is not asked in order to obtain information, but in order to help the person being asked, in order to lead him along the path of truth about himself. Let us now turn to a few first-hand testimonies of this extraordinary creature.
“I heard the doctors say that I was dead, and then I felt like I began to fall, or, as it were, swim through some kind of blackness, some kind of closed space. Words cannot describe it. Everything was very black, and only in the distance could I see this light. Very, very bright light, but not much at first. He became more and more number as I approached him.
I tried to get closer to this light, because I felt that it was Christ. I tried to get there. It wasn't scary. It was the other way around - more or less pleasant. As a Christian, I immediately associated this light with Christ, who said, "I am the light of the world." He was beautiful, so shiny, so radiant, but he didn't blind me at all. It was an unearthly light. I didn't really see anyone in this light, and yet it had a special personality. This is certain. It was the light of absolute understanding and perfect love. In my mind I heard: "Do you love me?"
This was not said in the form of a specific question, but I think that the meaning of what was said can be expressed like this: "If you really love me, come back and finish what you started in your life." And all this time I felt surrounded by overwhelming love and compassion."
“I knew that I was dying and there was nothing I could do, because no one could hear me. I was out of my body, there was no doubt about it, I could see him here on the operating table. My soul is out! At first it was all very difficult, but then I saw a very bright light. It seemed like it was a little dim at first, but then became a powerful glow. Just a lot of light spilled around. And the warmth from him was transferred to me; I felt warmth.
The light was bright, yellowish white, and more white. And extraordinary brightness; he covered everything, and yet he did not prevent me from seeing everything around: the operating room, doctors and nurses - everything. I could see clearly, and he did not blind. At first, when the light arose, I didn't quite understand what was happening. But then he asked me how he would ask me the question, am I ready to die? It was as if you were talking to someone, but you did not see with whom.
The light spoke to me, this voice belonged to him. Now I think that the voice that spoke to me really understood that I was not ready to die. You see, for me it was a kind of test, the most wonderful in my entire life.
I felt really good - safe and surrounded by love. The love emanating from him is something unimaginable, indescribable. It was so easy! And besides, he even had a sense of humor … Definitely it was!"
Dr. Moody describes this encounter as "possibly the most incredible element in the reports I have studied that has the deepest impact on a person."
Most people describe this experience as the appearance of light that rapidly increases in brightness; and everyone recognizes him as a certain person, filled with warmth and love, to which the deceased is attracted by something like a magnetic attraction. The identification of this creature, apparently, depends on the religious beliefs of the individual; it itself has no recognizable form. Some call him "Christ", others "Angel"; everyone seems to understand that this is a being sent from somewhere to accompany them.

Sometimes, in connection with this creature, the dying person sees something like a "flashback" about the events of his life.
However, everyone emphasizes that this creature does not in any way lead any judgment about their past life or actions; it just encourages them to reflect on their lives.
Doctors Osis and Haraldson also note in their research some encounters with such a being, noting that seeing light is "a typical quality of otherworldly visitors" and preferring, following Dr. Moody, to refer to beings seen or felt in this light simply "light figures.", and not spiritual beings or deities, as dying people often perceive them.
Many call these creatures Angels and point out their positive qualities: they are bright, full of love and understanding, and inspire the idea of responsibility for their lives.
