Employees of one of the laboratories of the Russian Foundation for Advanced Study are developing liquid breathing technology that could make a breakthrough in deep sea research. People, whose lungs will be filled with special oxygen-rich water, will be able to dive to great depths without risk to health. The technology is now being tested on dogs.

“I saw how the experimental dachshund was immersed in a large container of water and kept there for fifteen minutes. Everyone thought that the dog would choke as a result of this bullying, but no, the dachshund was fine when it was pulled out of the water. Unless she was somewhat lethargic - they say that this is due to hypothermia. The trick is that the dogs' lungs were filled with a special liquid saturated with oxygen, thanks to which they could breathe under water,”says Igor Chernyak, a journalist for rg.ru, who attended a demonstration of the fantastic technology.

Experts note that such developments existed even during the Soviet era, but were strictly classified. There is even talk of the existence of a special underwater station where liquid breathing technologies have been tested on humans.
