"Siberian unicorn" (lat. Elasmotherium) is a prehistoric animal considered extinct even before the appearance of people, however, judging by the latest archaeological data, the remains of the population were still found about twenty-six thousand years ago on the territory of modern Kazakhstan and could serve as a prototype of the unicorn from legends.

In fact, the fossil creature looked more like a hippopotamus with a horn and was impressive in size: about six feet high and 15 in length. If the age of the found fossil remains of these animals is correct, then they, albeit in small territories of Eurasia, lived with people, and possibly have survived to this day.

For example, the indigenous peoples of Siberia still talk about a one-horned beast, so large that its carcass had to be carried on a sleigh. Whether this particular beast served as the prototype of the legendary Unicorn, myths about which are widespread throughout Eurasia, or not, however, archaeologists are sure that Elasmotherium really existed there is no doubt.

These amazing animals, at first widespread throughout the continent, fell victims of global climate change and almost completely died out about three hundred and fifty thousand years ago, the places suitable for their habitat became less and less, forcing the already small population to die out and eventually disappear absolutely, in any case, there is no evidence that these relic animals have survived to this day.
