Three people have died from the Zika virus in South American Venezuela. President of the country Nicolas Maduro announced this yesterday, having drawn up a report on the epidemiological situation.
Judging by the words of the head of Venezuela, at the moment there have been 319 confirmed cases of Zika virus infection and 5,200 unconfirmed cases in the republic. Of the cases, 68 people got complications from the virus and three of them died, despite the efforts of doctors. Maduro stressed that the development of a vaccine against the disease is already underway and experts are doing everything in their power to prevent a possible mass epidemic.
It is worth noting that the Zika virus has recently spread in the northern part of South America and, according to the World Health Organization, is no less dangerous than Ebola. According to unconfirmed information, the disease is especially dangerous for pregnant women, as it causes disorders in the development of the fetus and leads to microcephaly in newborns. Nevertheless, this fact has not yet been officially confirmed by specialists.
