Scientists from the Russian Federation and the United States of America are planning to join forces to carry out an experiment that will create "the coldest place in the Universe" on board the International Space Station.
Eduard Son, Deputy Head of the Joint Institute for High Temperatures of the Russian Academy of Sciences, shared the relevant news with the press.
“The idea of the upcoming experiment is very simple - we will try to create on the ISS the coldest place in the observable Universe. At the moment, the record low temperature reached in the laboratories of the USA and the Russian Federation is ten to minus ninth degrees of Kelvin. But in outer space, where there is no gravity, you can get an even lower temperature - ten to a minus tenth degree,”says Academician Son.
According to him, this is a very complex experiment, comparable in complexity to the detection of gravitational waves.
Russian participation in the experiment consists, in particular, in the creation of "Rydberg matter". Which will be delivered to the ISS by the end of this year - then the experience starts. Scientists say the experiment will be a great achievement if successful.
