The T-HR3 robot from the Japanese company Toyota received a major and perhaps the most important update in its history. Engineers have developed for him a full-fledged remote communication system with duplication of operator gestures. Now the humanoid robot has become an avatar and can perform complex work with the effect of presence.
Toyota robots have been able to move, balance and skillfully handle objects before. However, their bottleneck remained the rigid cable tie to the control panel. Now, in cooperation with the provider NTT DoCoMo, the developer has provided the platform with a reliable wireless communication system. A stationary stand is used to control the robot, to which sensors for the upper and lower limbs of the robot are connected, as well as a virtual reality headset. The T-HR3 has a superbly debugged technology of movement in space, it can even imitate dance movements and elements of martial arts. And thanks to sensors and a headset, the operator sees everything that happens to the robot in augmented reality and with the feedback effect, which improves their interaction.
Officially, the new version of the robot will be shown on December 6 at the DoCoMo Open House event at the Tokyo International Exhibition Center. But the company has already released a video that demonstrates all the innovations. It seems that the Boston Dynamics robots are growing up a worthy rival.
