Previously, only a transcript of this recording was published - the Americans refused to release the audio recording itself in 2002, when the UK government declassified documents on the Rendlesham case.
These documents contain testimonies from US Air Force officers serving in the UK at a military base near Rendelshem Forest, near Ipwich. They saw a luminous unidentified object landing in Rendlesham Forest in December 1980.
This incident is considered one of the most serious human UFO sightings in history. It is considered the British counterpart of the 1947 UFO incident in the United States, when a spacecraft carrying aliens crashed in the American desert at Roswell, New Mexico.
On December 27, 1980, U. S. Air Force officers went into the woods to investigate the alleged plane crash. Instead, at the site of the alleged disaster, they saw a triangular, "strange, brightly glowing object." It hovered in the dark and pulsed with blue beams.
The main piece of evidence in this case is a report by US Air Force Lieutenant Colonel Charles E. Holt, entitled "Incomprehensible Lights." The lieutenant colonel described in it how he saw a luminous sun-like object moving through the trees.
It all started when two US Air Force Secret Police patrolmen noticed "unusual lights" outside the military base. After permission from their superiors to investigate, two base officers and one patrolman went into the forest to locate the light source.
In his report, Lt. Col. Holt writes that the officers discovered a strange luminous object in the forest. “Outwardly, it looked like it was made of metal. It was a triangular-shaped object, approximately two to three meters at its base and approximately two meters high."

“This object lit up the whole forest with white light,” wrote Charles Holt in his report. “There was red light pulsing at the top of the object, and blue lights glowing underneath. It seemed that the object was either floating in the air or standing on supports."
The next morning, the lieutenant colonel and his men found three depressions in the ground where the unidentified object had been at night, each seven inches in diameter. The radiation level at this site was 10 times higher than the norm, according to the 179-page archive of the Ministry of Defense.
Later, the British Department of Defense put forward a version that the officers could see the rays of the nearby Oxford Ness lighthouse. According to the assumption of the employees of the ministry who accepted this strange report, the beams of the lighthouse could be distorted by branches in the night forest.
But the next night, a second unidentified flying object was seen in the forest. "The object seemed to emit glowing parts, and then it split into five separate white objects," - according to reports from the British Air Force.
One of the declassified documents of the UK Department of Defense says: “No evidence of a threat to UK security has been found. In the absence of any compelling evidence of a threat, the Defense Department will not comment on the incident."
There is a note in the Rendlesham documents in which the British ask the United States to hand over the sound recordings they made that night. The Americans rejected this request.
UFO researchers claim that photographs and audio recordings of the incident were seized by the American military leadership.

Holt: This light is moving now. This is approximately 120 degrees from the site (The alleged landing site of the UFO the previous night. A group of officers arrived at this site to take radiation measurements and take samples of soil and burnt trees.)
Voice: He's heading in the opposite direction.
Holt: The other way around?
Voice: Yes sir
Holt: Put out your lights immediately. Let's go back to the clearing in the trees for a better look at what it is. Look, look at this in a night vision device.
The light is still there, and the animals are silent. We are standing approximately 110-120 degrees towards the site. We take measurements on a Geiger counter.
Holt: The arrow went off scale, three to four, getting stronger.

Holt: About four feet above the ground, about 100 degrees, how about the Geiger counter? Are there four clicks?

Holt: We just stumbled upon the first bird we met in the woods tonight. We are 150-200 yards from where the strange object was seen yesterday. All around is dead silence.
Holt: There can be no doubt about it - there are some strange twinkling red lights ahead.
Voice: Look! He's yellow now!
Holt: I saw a yellow light too. Devilry! Look, don't you think he moves like that? It is brighter than it was before. He is moving in this direction, he is definitely moving in that direction. It looks like pieces are flying off this thing. Yes it is. Some devilry.
Voice: Now two lights. One light is just behind and one to the left.

Holt: So we're looking at this thing, we're about two to three hundred yards away. She looks like an eye winking at you. Still moving from side to side. And if you look at it with a night vision goggle, you will notice that this thing has a depression, a dark depression in the center. It's like the pupil of a winking eye looking at you. And it blinks so brightly in a night vision device that it practically burns out your eye.
Holt: We walked past the farmer's house and cross the field. Now we see up to five luminous spots of the same shape. It seems that they have all calmed down a little and no longer pulsate and shimmer with red light.
Holt: We just crossed the stream and now we will find out what the meter shows:
Voice: Three clicks on the counter. We see strange lights in the sky again.
Holt: 02:44 a.m. We are on the far side of the field, looking 110 degrees towards our mark. They seem to be heading towards the coast. They are right on the horizon. They move slowly and blink from time to time. They stopped shimmering again and turned red.
Hult: 03:05 am. We see a strange strobe-like glow, quite sporadic, but there is definitely something there. Some kind of phenomenon.
Holt: 03:05 About 10 degrees, on the horizon, due north. There are two strange objects there, they are shaped like half the moon, they seem to jump in the sky, make sharp movements, colored lights on them.
I estimate they are about 5-10 miles from us. Maybe a little less. Now they have taken the shape of a regular circle, although for a minute or two before this transformation, some kind of turbidity could be noticed on them.
Holt: 03:15 We now see the object to the south, 10 degrees from the horizon. And those in the north are moving. One of them is moving away from us.
Voice: They are removed very quickly.
Voice: This one on the right is moving away from us, too.
Holt: They're both heading north. Hey, this one in the south also started moving, he's heading straight for us.
Holt: Now we see, it seems, some kind of ray that goes from one of the objects to the ground.
Holt: Incredible.
Holt: At 3-30, the objects are still in the sky, although it looks like the one in the south has dropped slightly. We moved in a circle and are now walking back towards the base.
Holt: The object to the south is still casting some beams on the ground.
Holt: 04-00 o'clock. One object is still hovering over the Woodbridge base about 5-10 degrees above the horizon, moving chaotically, and some kind of rays emanating from it to the ground.
