Scientists working at the University of Bremen in Germany told how you can decode words encoded in thoughts in brain signals. This requires a speech recognition system.
Thanks to this discovery, a person will be able to turn thoughts into words. This system in the future can greatly help people with speech disorders. In the study, scientists took part in people with epilepsy. Special electrodes were implanted into their brains. After that, the patients had to read the texts, and the computer to track the activity of their brain.
The results that the researchers obtained became the basis for patterns of neural signals that are consistent with certain moments of speech. Scientists then incorporated certain vocabulary and language models into their algorithms, so they were able to translate neural brain signals into text with a high degree of reliability.
One of the biggest drawbacks of this experiment is the need to insert an electrode into the patient's brain. Thus, this method is not yet widely used.
