On May 28, the first commercial ViPNet QSS Phone with quantum encryption was tested in Moscow. The device has been developed since 2017 by specialists from the Center for Quantum Technologies of Moscow State University and the Russian company Infotex.
At the presentation of the device, the creators held a voice communication session using quantum keys between the offices of Infotex and the Center for Quantum Technologies of Moscow State University. And then they told reporters about their creation.
According to experts, these phones cannot be tapped. During the communication session, two phones generate a shared key. The main difference between quantum encryption is that data is transmitted using photon particles.
“The system generates two random numbers for both interlocutors, and with the help of photons they exchange them and generate a common key. It is he who is considered reliable and with its help the main traffic is encrypted, - said the representative of Infotex.
Serial production of ViPNet QSS Phone will begin this year. The cost of one server and two phones will cost about 30 million rubles. A set of equipment with the installation of 50 phones will cost one hundred million rubles. The creators hope that the main buyers will be large corporations and government agencies.
