These days, parapsychologists around the world are desperately trying to find technically and statistically reliable methods to finally prove with certainty that telepathy exists!

The most sophisticated electronic equipment is used, a lot of time and money is wasted, but if the number of skeptics is thinning, it is too slow. And yet, already in the 1920s, many had the opportunity to make sure that thought can still be transmitted over a distance without any technique!

It all started in 1921.

"We are not bound by earthly limitations," announced suddenly for no apparent reason, some Wilbur and Ralph Torres, brothers. “We came from another galaxy and will return there when our mission is complete. We are free beings."

And the largest newspaper in America, The New York Times, took up their statement and began to devote entire pages to this sensation.

America amicably said: "Ah!"

It was in vain that skeptics appealed to the prudence of fellow citizens, reminding them that these young guys in white suits are not aliens at all, but only the sons of a taxi driver of Mexican origin, and who does not believe, they deem, get into Torres' car in Detroit and see for themselves. But all of America was already intrigued, fascinated, and sometimes irritated by the unheard-of audacity of two young men who assured that they could do the impossible - read each other's thoughts and transmit information thousands of miles away, and with such speed and accuracy as if they were talking on the phone.

And, most importantly, no one could understand how they do it, despite the complexity and severity of the experiments to which the skeptics subjected the Torres brothers.

Both guys were then in their early twenties, and in their hometown of Detroit, they became known shortly after the First World War, when the first catchy headlines about the sensational experiences of the Torres brothers appeared in local newspapers.

The young men used the newly erected skyscrapers as a suitable place to demonstrate their incredible abilities. The experiments attracted a lot of curious people, not only commoner onlookers, but also quite enlightened intelligent citizens.

First sensations

And it was done like this. Wilbur, accompanied by a witness, usually sat in a tightly closed box on the sidewalk near some skyscraper, and his brother took the elevator to any of the floors - at the choice of an impartial witness who went up with him (as a rule, it was one of the well-known and respected townspeople).

Coming out of the elevator on the floor indicated to him, Ralph went to the window, and Wilbur, sitting in his dark, opaque drawer, immediately informed another impartial witness on which floor his brother was standing. And I was never mistaken.

Once in a series of experiments that took an entire day, Ralph appeared 35 times on 20 different floors, but each time Wilbur accurately indicated the location of his brother. The fact that the Chicago bishop of the Roman Catholic Church was the witness who chose the floor this time put an end to all rumors about the conspiracy.

When the brothers moved to New York, they continued to amaze the audience with their gift of transmitting thought over long distances. A typical assignment was that someone present wrote a note, showed it to Ralph, he read it silently, and Wilbur, sitting at that time in a completely different room, had to write on a piece of paper the same text mentally transmitted to him by his brother … Then the notes were compared. And both texts have always been absolutely identical.

Academicians take over

In the spring of 1921, the brothers participated in experiments conducted by the American Academy of Sciences. Before that, since the radio had already appeared, there were persistent rumors that the Torres brothers were probably using some kind of clever radio to fool the gullible public. The brothers were thoroughly searched, but to no avail: there was no radio with them.

They also excluded the possibility of using any sound code: for this purpose, all experiments were carried out in complete silence.

Then it was decided to complicate the experiment as much as possible.

So, on March 24, Wilbur Torres was put on a train and sent (accompanied by two representatives of the academy) across the country to Los Angeles, while Ralph remained - under the watchful eye of scientists - in New York. None of the brothers could have known on what day the telepathic experiments would be conducted.

And then four days later, the first experiment began. From the official report of the academy members, it follows that the text was selected by a third party - the former president of the academy. Here is the content of the text: “George Washington was the first President of the United States and a major historical figure. He was an outstanding man whose honesty was never questioned."

The text was presented to Ralph Torres, who read it silently and mentally began to transmit it to his brother, who was already in Los Angeles.

Witnesses said that Vilbur Torres suddenly turned very pale, his body trembled, he only said: “My brother is trying to contact me,” and began feverishly to write something in a notebook that was placed in front of him. When the message was written, it was sealed, and academy officials took the package to the Western Union office, from where the text was immediately telegraphed to New York.

An hour later, the text in a sealed envelope was taken to a New York apartment, where Ralph Torres was waiting with several witnesses. Brother opened the telegram. He read it fluently and immediately passed it on to the eagerly awaiting officials.

The message from Wilbur Torres was exactly the same as the one his brother had mentally broadcast an hour earlier.

Where did they disappear?

The next week, the experiments continued, and in each of them the Torres brothers invariably demonstrated one hundred percent success.

Quite long texts were now used (up to 200 words). In addition, experiments were carried out to reproduce the color and shape of objects, the suit and dignity of playing cards, any objects taken at random from the pockets of volunteers.

The more the experimenters became confused, the more modest the Torres brothers became. It seemed that they were not trying to add value to themselves: “Where we came from, the transmission of thought from one person to another is perceived as something as natural as speech or sight,” Wilbur said in a tone as if that had already been said. "The rocket brought us to this planet as babies, and soon we have to go back."

Three years later, the Torres brothers actually disappeared. Some said then that the guys, they say, took off, because they sensed that this impudent swindle was about to be exposed. Others gossiped as if the brothers had collected a lot of money on credit and disappeared on the sly to Mexico.

Be that as it may, the Torres brothers, with their phenomenal ability to break spatial barriers with thought, was never seen again. They disappeared so completely, as if they really returned to their incomprehensible distant galaxy …
