The latest poll by the research company Public Policy Polling showed that a significant proportion of US residents believe in conspiracy theories: 29% believe that the government is hiding the existence of aliens, and 28% believe that the world is controlled by a secret government.

The company's experts examined 20 popular conspiracy theories and myths in the United States and found out which ones are the most common.

For example, it came as no surprise that 51% of Americans believe that the assassination of President John F. Kennedy was the result of a government conspiracy.

The poll showed that Americans in general are not inclined to trust the country's government. Despite reports of the assassination of Osama bin Laden, 6% are convinced that "terrorist number one" is still alive.

In addition, 44% believe that the George W. Bush government invented weapons of mass destruction as a pretext for starting the war in Iraq in 2003, and 11% believe that the country's special services were involved in the September 11, 2001 attacks.

Moreover, 13% of Americans are completely sure that President Barack Obama is the Antichrist.

Popular Americans are popular and more exotic myths. Thus, 15% believe that the state controls the minds of people through television, and one can only save oneself from this by putting on a “foil hat”.

The theory that airplanes leave traces in the sky consisting of dangerous chemical elements is believed by 5% of the respondents, and 9% are convinced of the malicious intent of scientists who add fluoride compounds to tap water.
