"Haunted houses" nowadays no longer surprise anyone. But there are buildings that cause discomfort in people, to put it mildly. It is either their strange appearance or the historical facts associated with them to blame. Today we will talk about some of them.
Crazy House (Da Lat, Vietnam)
This villa, designed by the architect Dang Viet Nga, resembles a huge tree, decorated with scary decorations. Ms. Nga wanted the view of the building to remind people of the need to return to nature. But eyewitnesses are convinced that only a madman could have thought of building such a thing. Therefore, those who had a chance to see the building for the first time exclaim: "Crazy house!" ("Crazy House!").
House-stone (Fafe, Portugal)
This two-storey house under a tiled roof, consisting of four giant boulders, with asymmetrical windows, is more reminiscent of a prehistoric structure. It was built in 1973 by Victor Rodriguez, who wanted to use the building as a country villa, where he could retire and relax in the company of loved ones. People who have seen Rodriguez's house with their own eyes believe that it is quite suitable for filming horror films. He was even given the nickname "House of the Flintstones".

Mark Twain House (New York, USA)
In the New York quarter of Greenwich Village, at 14th West 10th Street, there is a house built in the distant 1850. It is known for the fact that from 1900 to 1901. the famous writer Mark Twain lived there.
But even earlier, the house was enveloped in notoriety. Those who rented apartments in it literally began to go crazy. According to rumors, this is what made the writer move out in due time. After that, a married couple settled in his former apartment. And soon both spouses simultaneously committed suicide.
In the 60s. last century, the actress and poet Jen Bryant Bartell lived here. In her book Spindrift: Spray From a Psychic Sea, published in 1974, she wrote that while in the house, more than once she felt something invisible touching her. Sometimes she noticed how things in the house moved by themselves, strange shadows flickered. To them were added sounds of unknown origin and from time to time the arising smell of rot …
According to the actress, one of her dogs died under strange circumstances, and she often found the other nagging at an empty corner or chair, as if someone was there. Then Bartell began to see ghosts. One of them was the already mentioned Mark Twain. She also saw people who died in the Civil War, a girl whose body was buried somewhere under the house, an aborted baby and a dead cat. They all had something to do with this place.
However, Bartell believes that it is not so much the ghosts as the "evil energy" of the house. As the writer reports in her book, some of her neighbors died an unnatural death during her stay in the house - as a result of murder, suicide or drug overdose. By the way, shortly after the book was published, Bartell herself committed suicide.
Nowadays, nothing bad seems to be happening here, but the building is still called the House of Death. Tourists willingly visit it.
House of Evil in Reseda (Los Angeles, USA)
It is said that everyone who lived in this house either became drug addicts or committed suicide. A few years ago, a team of "ghostbusters" from the TV show "Ghost Adventures" came to investigate the house.
As soon as they went inside, many began to have headaches, and the state of mind became depressed. Strange whispers were heard from all sides, someone even saw a foggy silhouette crossing the room. Then aggression suddenly flared up in the group, the participants began to accuse each other of various sins …
One of the shots later revealed a mysterious silhouette sitting on the bed. For some reason, the same room was very cold compared to other rooms.
Residential complex Habitat-67 (Montreal, Canada)
The building, built by Israeli architect Moishe Safdi, consists of 354 cubes, all stacked randomly on top of each other. There are 146 apartments in the house, arranged in such a way that on the roof of each apartment there is a garden belonging to the neighbors above. Few people want to live here, but it is the world's most popular parkour destination.
Dancing House (Prague, Czech Republic)
This extravagant building on the Vltava embankment was once erected in honor of the famous dancers Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers.
One of the two cylindrical towers with a metal "decoration" resembling hair symbolizes Fred, and the second, resembling a female figure in a flying dress, is Ginger. However, the locals called this architectural masterpiece "drunken house".
Crooked House (Sopot, Poland)
This office and shopping center in Sopot was built in 2004 in the postmodern style. When you look at it, an optical illusion arises that the house and even the windows are skewed. Meanwhile, the building is quite large: its area is about 4 square kilometers. Many people are uncomfortable here, so few people dream of working in such a "crooked" place.
Sutyagin House (Arkhangelsk, Russia)
This wooden tower-shaped residential building in Solombala was built in the early 90s by a local businessman Nikolai Sutyagin. The fact is that the building was built without any project and was originally planned as a summer residence.
But over time, three floors turned into 13, and the height of the tower reached 38 m. It was even going to be entered into the Guinness Book of Records as the tallest wooden building in the world. However, later Sutyagin's house was recognized as "illegal unauthorized construction", and in December 2008 the extra floors had to be demolished. There are only four floors left. In the network, the house was nicknamed "Baba Yaga's Skyscraper". On May 5, 2012, the rest of the building was destroyed by fire. So one unique attraction of the Russian North has become less.
