Strange news appeared on the pages of the Thai edition "The Nation" on November 6, 2017. It says that the Nong Suang community (Kalasin province) was visited by a serious delegation from a public health organization led by the head - Dr. Pyrat Songkhram. In addition to officials, doctors and psychologists arrived at the settlement. The purpose of the visit is to investigate an unusual incident.
It all started with the fact that on October 29, in one of the villages, four men died under unexplained circumstances. Autopsies were rumored to have revealed that the victims were missing internal organs. A real panic broke out among the local population. People said that the insides were eaten by an evil spirit who appeared to the deceased in the form of a ghost woman.
And this is not the first case in the Kalasin province. In 2007, under similar circumstances, four men died there, all on the same day. And 10 years later, in July of this year, a mysterious disease took four cows. Shortly thereafter, four police officers fell seriously ill. In Asian countries, the number four is considered unlucky, it symbolizes death.
Belief in the supernatural is in one way or another characteristic of many inhabitants of the Earth. This is a feature of human nature: where there are no clear answers to questions, our consciousness comes up with fantastic images. And the collective consciousness makes the brightest of them traditional for a particular area. It so happened historically that in the northeast of Thailand, the people believe in bloodthirsty ghosts. These spirits (believed to be female) choose their victims among men and pursue them, gradually destroying the insides. As a result, the person dies.
To protect themselves from a series of new deaths, 370 families from three villages hired a hermit monk - he and twenty of his assistants performed a special ritual prohibiting the demon from crossing the boundaries of these settlements. The head of the community told reporters that the magic ritual calmed people down. Many returned after the ceremony with a smile on their face.
However, the head of the medical team, specialist in preventive medicine, Dr. Pyrat Songkhram, believes that it is too early to rejoice. It was officially established that one of the victims died from leptospirosis (a bacterial disease that causes kidney problems and meningitis), while the other had problems with blood pressure. But the peasants were not convinced by the official diagnoses. They consider one of the local widows to be the embodiment of an evil spirit, and if another man dies in the village in the near future, her life will be in jeopardy.

Officials continue to investigate the real causes of death. And psychologists are currently working with the families of the deceased. At the same time, the head of the investigation group forbade his subordinates to laugh at local superstitions so that the peasants did not stop cooperation.
It is another question whether these beliefs are fantastic, because there are still many inexplicable phenomena in the world that are beyond scientific concepts. On that ill-fated day, October 29, there was a series of no less mysterious deaths: several pets and one buffalo were found dead. Internal organs were missing in the mutilated corpses.
