Tasmanian police and firefighters cannot explain the source that the beam of light produced. It was reported to have fallen from the sky, and the result was a circle of fire in the Hobart suburb. In the early hours of the morning, police and fire crews were roused to their feet by concerned residents in Carnegie Street in Claremont. They reported seeing a bright light that lit a fire in a nearby paddock.
Tasmanian firefighting officer Scott Weinen says the fire was quickly extinguished but left obvious traces. He said that the strange incident had confused everyone.
“As soon as we put out the fire, we immediately looked closely at the burned place and tried to find something,” says Scott. “We thought a fireball or a small meteor might have landed there, but we could not find any reason for the incident.”
The fire department says it will not investigate further.
