The ancient ruins discovered in the very center of the Pacific Ocean may be the cities of the legendary Atlantis, as scientists themselves say. The city of Nan Mandol is located on Pohnpei Island, one of the most remote islands in the ocean.
Archaeologists have found that earlier this island was inhabited by an ancient Asian civilization, about which practically no information has been preserved. The ruins of the city look very strange in this place: why would anyone build a policy of this size at a complete distance from other civilization?
Mark McCoy, an anthropologist at the Southern Methodist University of Texas, was able to analyze coral decorations from a tomb believed to have belonged to one of the city's leaders.
It turned out that the city was built around 1800 BC. Most likely, he really was the capital of an ancient civilization, but where, then, are all the other settlements? Scientists cannot answer this question yet.
