American archaeologists in Peru found a broken staircase, a flat plaster floor and the remains of an ancient hearth with traces of charcoal inside the "volcano" in the Nepenja Valley. Unexpectedly for scientists, the object turned out to be man-made.
We are talking about El Vulcano, which was found in the middle of the last century, it is a hill about 16 meters high and a crater. For many years it was considered an extinct volcano, but the researchers were confused by the insignificant height of the object, writes Live Science.
As a result, an archaeological expedition was organized to the volcano, which carried out excavations in the crater and found a staircase inside the hill that led to a large hall with the remains of a hearth and a flat floor. Analysis showed that the last time the hearth burned was between 1492 and 1602.
Apparently, the object was used for ritual ceremonies. The pyramid was built by an unknown civilization about 2.5 thousand years ago. It is noteworthy that not far from it there are ancient objects that could form a single complex.
