The presence of pyramids at the bottom of the American Rock Lake is no longer in doubt. However, who could have built them 10 thousand years ago, when the bottom of the lake was still dry land? What a mysterious civilization existed in those distant times, when, according to scientists, only a small number of primitive tribes fought for their survival in the vastness of the North American continent.
One summer day, a large crowd of residents of the American town of Lake Mills gathered on the shores of Lake Rock. Curiosity brought them here: maybe the riddle, about which they have been talking for more than a decade, will finally be solved. People looked at the multi-colored pontoons, from which scuba divers jumped into the water every now and then. Some time passed, and they, having used up the air supply, returned to the surface. The young biologist W. Kennedy was gone for the longest time. But then he appeared, holding a stone in his hands. Taking off his mask, he shouted joyfully: "Found it!". What were the scuba divers looking for?
Rock Lake, 40 kilometers east of Madison, Wisconsin, has long been legendary. It seems that they first started talking about him at the beginning of our century after the story of hunters who hunted ducks on the lake. The essence of their story boiled down to the fact that they saw in the waters of the lake a part of some structure ending at the top of a flat platform. They claimed that they even managed to touch this platform with an oar. True, that year the summer was dry and the water level dropped by two meters.
When the next year they tried to find the strange structure again, nothing came of it. Rock Lake is about eight kilometers long and four kilometers wide. But not the size of the reservoir, not its depth were the main obstacle in the search. The fact is that the waters of this lake are always cloudy. A suspension of the finest silt falls off only during cold and clear days. It was on such a day in April 1936 that Dr. Morgan, flying over the lake on his sports plane, saw at its bottom the clearly visible silhouettes of three large objects - either they were rocks, or structures of unknown purpose. Taking an interest in what he saw, Dr. Morgan steered his plane downward, making a circle over the lake. Soon, mysterious silhouettes again flashed below. This time the doctor clearly saw three regular pyramids with truncated tops.
The newspapers then wrote about this discovery, the famous diver of that time M. Noel became interested in it. After several dives, he found one of the pyramids. Then M. Noel described his impressions as follows: “It has the shape of a cut haystack 10-12 meters high. The side of the upper platform is about a meter long. The entire structure was erected from carefully hewn and fitted stones. The story of M. Noel was then treated with distrust.
The report of W. Kennedy and his colleagues went to their pontoons with a similar distrust, when he suddenly noticed some blurry outlines in the muddy water. Soon, the biologist reached the stone wall of the mysterious structure. Having sailed around him, he climbed higher. Its shape resembled a truncated pyramid. The biologist took a piece of masonry from the upper platform, which, as it seemed to him, should have become undeniable proof of his discovery. The pyramid was located about three hundred meters from the place where the return of W. Kennedy and his comrades was expected. When a little later they all sank there again under the water, it was not possible to find the underwater structure again. The search for the building was in vain in the following days. Of course, if a signal buoy were found in their equipment, the problem would be solved simply. Unfortunately,All the equipment of the expedition was purchased by the participants with their own savings, of which there were not so many. There were no people willing to sponsor the "eccentrics" either then or later.
Several years passed, and another group of enthusiasts arrived at the lake, broke the map of the lake into small squares and began to methodically explore each of them. In order not to repeat the mistakes of their predecessors, the researchers this time managed to stock up on an echo sounder and buoys. And after several days of searching, they were lucky: the first pyramid was discovered. Not a mirage, not a hallucination, but a very real stone structure.

The next question: the time of standing of the lake pyramids. A logical conclusion suggests itself: before the lake appeared in this place. But, as follows from the conclusions of geologists, the Rock Lake was formed 10 thousand years ago! What kind of civilization existed here at that time? After all, it was previously believed that ten thousand years ago there were only small tribes with a very primitive lifestyle on this territory. It is impossible even to admit that they were able to build such structures. So, in those distant times, not these (or not only these) tribes lived in these places, but some other, more developed people? However, no information about him has survived.
No further large-scale studies of Lake Rock were carried out. The world is full of mysteries related to the history of the human race, but no one is in a hurry to scrupulously work on these riddles. Even in rich countries (for example, in the United States), government allocations for archaeological research (as well as related to them) are small and are received mainly by reputable universities. Distributing the same allocations by subject, universities act on the principle of "measure seven times …", sweeping aside various "crazy fantasies."
